The '81 catalog shows the shifters, derailleurs and hubs as shimano 600 EX, the FW is listed as Shimano Unihub 6spd 14x28, the brakes are listed as DiaCompe, Cranks GipMe Triple touring, bar stem ITM. The seat post and seat are listed as San Marco and Suede Corsair.

You have the RD in your possession it is easier for you tell us what is printed on it or take better pics but I agree it looks like a Suntour, ARX.

I believe the intent of this bike was more "Sport Touring" like the '90s and later Eros, rather than loaded touring.
Thank you for the additional information. I took a better pic of the SunTour derailleur. As you can see it is hard to tell. With the recent post, It looks like Cyclone Mark II. We got a used Shimano 600 EX derailleur and it will be here this weekend. The hubs are indeed Shimano. Well, we will look for the right seat post, seat, handlerbar, and pedals.

Like I hinted at above, I wouldn't be in a hurry to replace the derailleur -- what you have is a better unit and was probably an upgrade by the savvy first owner.

I agree with Scott don't be in hurry to swap derailleurs especially if that 600EX isn't a long cage type.

I never had one but I understand these were great shifting units.

I think this is a early cassette hub, any side views out of the frame?

I will try to upload one or two side view out of the frame. Received the Shimano 600 EX Long cage derailleur and it looks in excellent condition. We will safe keep it in the box for later.

Sorry to bump year old thread...

Mine has Weinmann Brakes, Moldo levers (Need Hoods), Gipiemme cranks, and a San Marco 313 Suede Corsair.

Except for pedals & saddle previous owner indicated he did not change anything else but tires and bar tape. He thinks current saddle was similar to original.

You can start your own thread.

When you start bumping old threads, you're going to find people commenting and answering things that were LONG forgotten about.

This is about YOUR bike- start a new thread.

It's hard to remember before Shimano had a stranglehold on all the bike companies. As late as 85, Trek specced their top end touring bikes with Shimano levers and brakes, Huret and simplex derailleurs and Maillard hubs.

I remember that. I can remember the complete specs of a great many bikes from 1978 through 1984. I still say no bike would have been spec'd with Shimano shifters and a SunTour rear derailleur. Not one. If someone can prove me wrong, I will concede, but until then, I'll stand by that assertion.

Never Ridden 1981 Bianchi Nuovo Touring Bike

As I was clearing my Cousin's Estate. I found this 1981 Bianchi Nuovo Touring Bike. 10 speed. No signs of contact on the seat, nibs on the tires, perfectly clean. I have No Idea what to do with this bike. Please feel free to make suggestions or request photos.

Thank You

Tom

This must have been the year before they started an expanded line with added Japanese builds?
