Wow, that is a sweet looking Colnago. I cannot believe that this bike only cost you 7$....I thought the guy who bought a Ciocc for 40$ had the Catch of the Year, but I think you might have it. Wish I could give you advice on how to restore it properly, my Colnago's paint was worse than that so I just stripped it and powder-coated it. The frame and fork could fetch you a pretty penny on eBay, that is for sure. Keep us posted, thanks for sharing the pics.

We (my significant other and me) had to drive 300 km's to get this one, over in Belgium. To make it worth our while we had a 'Kriekske' (traditional Belgium beer, reddish coloured and berry flavoured) on the marketsquare in Mechelen. First pic!

The 'catch' that brought us there was a white Rossin (yes, another one) with chrome headlugs and chrome rear triangle. Condition is not as good as i would have liked. But the parts are nice, and I got three almost new tubulars to go with it.
Parts are Nuovo Record: rear derailleur from 1980, right hand crank 1982, left hand crank 1974 (????). Bottom bracket and headset are shot, I'll have to see what I can do to make it a good ride.
The wheels are sew-ups, GP4's. I suspect the rear rim has taken a bad hit, seems to have a flat spot. funny thing is, the rear is 32 spokes, the front 28 spokes, tied and soldered!
Brake levers are a pair of spotless C-Record's. They will go on another, more modern Rossin. The Rolls saddle is the nice brownish 'grained leather' one, albeit with a scuff on the right side. The stem is 11 cm 3TTT, I'll have to change that for a 12 cm, and the handlebars are the 'pista' type and I really hate that, they'll have to go too. Also the seatpost has to be swapped for a one or two bolt Campy Record, to achieve that oh-so important consistent look.
As you all can see, I'm a 'ride that classic bike' kind of guy. Maybe this one will be the ride for next winter. Or maybe not, I'd worry too much about that open bracket shell!
Oh, besides gasoline and beers, this one cost me 75 euros.

Edit: the hubs are from 74 (the 28) and 82, the brake calipers are pre-77 (flat release handles). A real mix-match of parts.

Great find... if I were to acquire one myself, I'd definitely keep/ride it. Too bad most modern bike shops don't still sell beautiful machines like that!

Thanks Mark! form close by it's a little less great. The paint is kind of flaking from under the bb shell (frame is chromed under the paint), and I just found a dent in the downtube that the seller neglected to tell me about (and I neglected to spot it earlier).
Riding will be OK though, I look forward to that!

Oh, and eh, it's not really white! It's off-white, creamy, almost like what some people put in their coffee!

Buh? I missed that, what kind of Masi was it? I will have to re-read this thread for the thousandth time. The only good thing I have ever found was a Shimano WH-R535 wheel in the dumpster. A Masi?!?! Daayuuuum!

an absolutely unbelievable killer deal! That's gotta be close to the deal of the year. The G in a star is a guerciotti symbol - the fork is not original. You shoulda got the guy to drop another buck! Really, though, you can often get colnago forks on eBay, but guerciotti forks are harder to get and you can probably turn a profit between the two.

Every so often the goddess of old bike parts smiles my way...I bought a bunch of brake levers for $7 a while back - got 'em and this NOS long reach campy with an original globe hood was at the bottom of the bunch. no tears, no wears, no scratches. The coolest thing is that I have a matching long-reach from a box of junk that I bought last year. Now...anyone have a spare globe hood?

So thats the star on the fork! Since I absolutely h8 rust, i can really franken bike this thing, like with this old Bianchi fork (green) with the bird panto'ed on the crown I got sitting around. but that would be silly. Will try to find a nicely matching fork. btw: forgotten the wonderful aroma of acetone. Will post more pix as things come appart and get cleaned.

Well, I tore down the above Urago today, and the frame has issues. But the headset was a nearly mint conditon (races, some flaking chrome), absolutely no wear on the races, early Stronglight, buried under some grime. Speaking of the frame issues, I actually pulled the HS cups out of the frame with my fingers. The fork was an obvious replacement, which makes me wonder. The HS looks earlier than the bike to me by 5-10 years, which makes me think the HS had been lying around the shop a while before the fork was replaced. The BB threading was improperly aligned, as if someone had done a really crappy tap job or something. The Excelto Super Competion rear hub was as new, as were the Mathhausers. And the French threaded adjustable cup, though the fixed cup was shot. Frame was alligned okay, but had been repainted in spots with house paint. Tried to stick in some other HS cups, but they were all loose as well. Think it has too many issues, so no burning man bike this time sorry.

But I'll take a french threaded stronglight headset for free any day of the week. I'm guessing the guy had an accident, had the shop "fix" it up and improve some things, and then never rode it again. And I can use the fork and several other parts as well.

this bike has french cups? I thought french cups were smaller than italian...oh, and loose headset cups can be repaired...

um...I'm confusing two different threads here. sorry.

The proper way to do it is to add new brazing material to the inside of the head tube and re-mill the head tube to the proper dimension. I have added shims cut from beer cans to tighten up oblong head tubes - but I don't know if this poses a safety issue. Seemed to work for as long as I had the bike (a couple of years). If you don't snug up the race/cup somehow then it just continues to get more and more worn...

Hmmm... I'm taking a welding class (free 'cause I teach at the art center) in a couple of weeks and the teacher promised to show me how to braze, plus I have a reamer/facer for head tubes... may be time to learn something new. In the past, I've found there is some varianance in headset cup diameter, and sometimes if you try a couple of different ones you find one that's nice and snug. In other words, one HS brand may fit a headtube all proper like and another brand of HS may be loose. Thanks, Lurker, for the hint, I'll check Barnett's as well and see what they say. Either way, I'll give it a rip.

However, the SL HS is way too nice to go back in the Urago. The races are completely unmarred. I don't think it's ever been ridden on.

I can prolly fix the BB with a cheapie YST BB for frames with bad BB threads, a fix which I've wanted to attempt for awhile now. Looks like the Urago may turn into a learning project, and thus be quite valuable. Kewl!

Record 8 speed RD $60 like new, shifts sooooo smooth & 3ttt semi aero alum seatpost $10, its awfully pretty.
