Oh. My. God.

Look what our other budding artiste has been up to in Poland:

I think Jon and I had better up our respective games or duck out forever because it's all about the packaging now

Seen Drillium dude's jobs, sent pix here, before he went to keep the 60's era B52's in the air-ready status,
on Diego Garcia, Island, in the Indian Ocean .

at least he had access to a better machine shop ,( the Air Force's, I suspect), he made up drill jigs
to get all the holes spaced evenly, and in line.

I guess some might consider me an "artiste" then......

But in the great tradition of BF C&V, A Cheapskate artiste!, as I don't bother with the hoity-toity satin stuff and I use old sample boxes for marble tiles thrown away by our architectural office.....plus I jam them all in there nice and tight! Dig it out if you want to see it!

Bikes: blue ones.

I bet those are repurposed wine gift boxes. Plus, a fine case of mavic would bring a lot more than a decent grand cru these days cheapskate, he says...

Weird post. D. Dude is in the Navy. I doubt he has much to do with B-52's. And he does his drillium with his own tools if I'm not mistaken. Mostly his Dremel.

Yes, I'm aware of what goes on, and has gone on.... on the Island.

Never met Chief Drillium. But I'm looking forward to it.

This clown should change his ebay name to "Driller Killer". I think the only thing worse than his work is this movie!

He needs to step away from the drill.

Im surprised that you even commented in on this topic, I thought you'd probably need a barf bag every time you saw those pics.

Hey!, They had that movie on "Creepy KOFY TV Movie" a couple of weeks ago in the Bay area!
Super cheap 70's movie with a lot of cheesy gore scenes.....
Honest!, I watch the program for the rare period B movies....... and not the "60 seconds of horniness" dance and striptease routines.....Really!

We rented this movie on VHS in high school. How'd you like his battery belt? I think I saw somebody with that setup in the lighting and electronics forum.

Funny how a cordless drill setup as in that movie must have been so high tech back then.....

I really have no interest in what this guy is doing or thinks is reality. But for the sake of reality here's an example of the weight savings we are talking about. About 1 oz. So it would be like doing interval repeats up Lombard street with your AARP newsletter in your back pocket on a stock crank and without on his masterpiece.

This is a fully profiled Record crank with milled spiders and larger flutes cut on the front and back. I guarantee there's more material removed from this crank then the "drilled" thing on ebay. With a fully drilled 52/42 NR ring set weight is just about 14 oz.

A stock Record crank and 52/42 NR ring set tips the scale at 15 oz.

Sorry I do not have a good gram scale for an exact comparison, but I'm not delusional that this work is about anything more than just the style and never felt I really needed one.

I would also suggest if his selling point is that his crank weighs less than a current Super Record 11 set he add the weight of a NR bottom bracket, as the SR 11 includes axles and bearings. But then again we have to bring reality in to the discussion for that......

I was a fan of this crankset when it came out in about 1979: Stronglight 105bis.

Yeah, I like how the arms are sculpted a bit towards a Campagnolo shape while still keeping the Stronglight style.

I doubt this drilling exercise takes much, if any weight off. Only done with good taste do I like it.

I suggested to the seller that each hole reduced the value by $ .50. He asked me calculate it for him, and mentioned beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Well, um, sure, I guess so ......

Not long if he were to use his own stuff, but I'm afraid this is not the case.

Edit: I thought you were referring to the guy cranking out more altered components, but you were talking about this skinny RD... Oh boy!

I like that too Tom. And Otis' work above is how it should be done, if it's done at all.
