Thanks for these pix, I think we can't allow the Pug Comete to be added cause AFAIK this was not made by ALAN. still an interesting alloy frame that's neither ALAN nor Vitus.
Is the Basso a Carbonio tubed model (with CF tubes and stays) or just painted flat black? Basso is EDIT: Basso is actually on 'the List' as entry #11, but followed with a "?" cause we never saw photo confirmation so i will update that entry and would like to note that Basso either sold a re-badged Carbonio model (or a conventional all-ALU model, whichever is correct) |
Judging from the points on the lugs, the Basso is a Carbonio......
I don't think the aluminum tubed ALANs ever had points on their lugs. |
The aluminium Record has also 'pointed' lugs.

I picked it up as a frame, but it is indeed a carbon tubed frame. It looks so fragile, I put it up after completion and never rode it again.

taking this thread on a little hi-jack, but there have been a few posts that have merged from ALAN into "Vitus" territory () and so in the interest of expanding our reach...
I came across this mention in the "Our History" section of the current (Ireland-based) Vitus Co. website: "1981 — 1989French manufacturers Peugeot, Motobecane, Mercier, France-Loire, Bertin, Wilier Triestina, Cilo all license the Vitus 979 design and release copies of the bike under their own labels."I would pick the nit that Wilier (Italy) and Cilo (Switzerland) were not "French manufacturers" So not holding a candle to how many ALAN frames got the re-brand treatment (at least 70+ that have photo evidence and still counting!) there were 7 rebrand marques that did likewise for the Vitus 979. "Nice start, guys, keep trying"! |
This just cropped up in a Facebook marketplace ad: another Tommaso (Ten Speed Drive brand) but not positive if it's a Carbonio or just black painted (ALU) tubes and stays. Fork is an aftermarket Kinesis.
Any of you experts care to chime in if you know for sure? https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...70e079142b.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fdb25af33e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...bdbcec1517.jpg |
Hi, I'm familiar with three Tommaso flyers/catalogs and all three mention and show only a black anodised alu model. And a pump peg is not common but here it is.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b0c4a22ac0.jpg So I have re-edited entry #13 to remove any chance that there could have been a Tommaso/ALAN Carbonio (until, or unless one actually crops up in a genuine photo. AI-generated fakes are not allowed. And that is all) |
