My Circuit is up and running

She is not so pretty but rides like a dream. I plan on painting the bike over the winter. {Winter project bike) The tires are old but still good. As soon as I get some spare cash I will buy new ones. In the mean time I will be riding an ugly bike. A fast one. She has a mix of parts so everyone has something they can like.

Steve- Very cool, especially the shifters! What type or size tire do you need? Hopefully you'll bring it on the next Sat. AM group ride. S.

Ps: My Chwinn Hurricane road mule conversion while in the works.

That looks cool.

I got the shifters from a member here, jjhabbs . He gave them to me. He said they would add a "cool" factor to the build. He was right. They do look good. I need 700 x 23 tires. It has 700 x 20 now. Not sure I like them so skinny. I had a set of 700 x 20 on my Prelude that had yellow side walls. I put them on the Centurion Ironman and put 23`s on the Prelude. I swear I am done building the Prelude now. I have changed that bike around so much. I really like the look I have now. I am finished. I swear.

Bikes: A few

Hey,

As long as it's an 80's road Schwinn it's fine with me. Nice roll call of bike parts to get your circuit on the road. Hope you have a great riding season ! Are you going to paint the frame same colours or go another direction? How bad can the paint be ?

I spent my day tranfering the parts from a 92 trek that included a Shimano 105 drive train to my 88 Schwinn Tempo frame.

Those Schwinn Circuits are nice bikes....

Nice build! I have always wanted a Circuit and Superbe Pro set. It looks tough and no nonsense the way it sits. Like Sly Stallone's persona in Cobra. I can understand wanting to repaint though.

Thanks. I was planning on trying touch up work. I would take my time. If It looks bad I will have it powder coated red. I have time to think about it. The Tempo`s are sweet as well.

Thanks. It does look tough. With new black tires it will look lean and mean!

Steve- I have a spare pair of 700x25 Kenda Kriterium that you're welcome to have. They probably have 400 miles on them.

As for paint frame touch-up, the Hurricane project was going to get a repaint as the condition looked like yours. Maybe down the road but for now the Testors 921500 red is a close match.

Thanks for the offer on the tires. The ones on the bike are still good enough to ride on until I buy another set. The Testers Red, is that a pinkish red? It looks close. My frame was purchased as a rescue from a life of fixed gear commuter hell. I think it has faded a bit from sunlight and has a lot of paint loss from being locked up so much. It may be beyond touch up?

Without seeing how much fade your bike has, not sure if the pigment will come back but would certainly attempt. Red is 'loud' but easily hides flaws if viewed at a distance. For now, you could try the touch up (as mentioned below) and then later do a full on strip (using Bix) and re-paint.

My Hurricane project is no special or collectable, was poor cosmetically, peppered chipped and some fade. I just wanted a quick fix and without fussing with a full on paint job. With a thorough degrease and prep, but no primer, I simply applied a few layers of the Testors 921500. A few days later, lightly sanded with a 1000 grit over some of the touch-up spots and then used a 'cleaner' wax. The cleaner wax will have a small amount of abrasive. That helps in removing a top layer of fade and with luck, just below that the remaining paint will pop like original. Good enough as a 10 footer.

I went to the Testers Website and could not find that paint number?

I sold the Ironman so I have a new set of tires on the Circuit. Looks much better now.

Nope. I actually refubrished a 1978 Varsity and a 75 Suburban for a friend of a friend. I finished them yesterday and delivered them last night. The whole way there I thought my rack was going to brake and the bikes where going to fall all over the highway. I did not fear for those bikes. They would survive with scratches. It was the damage they would do to cars that might hit them that scared me. LOL Those bikes are beasts. They rode very well considering how heavy they are. My Circuit is less than half the weight at 22 pounds the way she sits.

I am loving my Circuit. The bike is just amazing. I can die a very happy man now.
