Need Help Identifing 1950s Schwinn Bike

Hello Everyone,

I came across an old schwinn bicycle today and I'm trying to identify it. The owner stated that it was a 1953 Schwinn, and that about all that was known. It's a medium blue boys bike and has the following: tan leather seat with 2 exposed springs, tank, chain guard with the word "custom" inscribed on it and a chrome suspension spring just in front of the fork nameplate. That's about all I remember. My first impression was it was a middle weight schwinn like a Jaguar or corvette. I did somoe research and Cannot find any Schwinn model with the name "Custom". It looked all original and was in beautiful condition. I'm interested in buying this bike, and any help identifying it would be much appreciated. Thanks for any help. bike01453

If you want an answer take a picture and provide a serial number. The serial number sould be on the left rear drop out. Many sellers think all old bikes are Schwinns but many are not. Roger

They may have used a newer chain guard to complete the bike. Could be a reproduction also. Did it have patina?

Thanks for the replies. I didn't have an opportunity to take a photo or get the serial number. There is no question that it is an original Schwinn and it did have some typical wear, that you would expect for a 60 year old bike. I'll try to get the serial number, is it on the rear axle mounts?
