1983 Trek 720

Picked this up from the local CL. I've had a few trek 720's but all the sand color, I've seen some burgundy but never seen a red one with chrome forks before, thought I would

share. Paint looks original, you think this is a repaint? what about the chrome fork? has a set of 8 speed dura ace hubs laced to 27" mavic's, american classic

triple crankset (180mm) and even a custom contraption for an extra brake. 60cm 1983 720 according to the serial number.

Bikes: A bunch of old bikes and a few new ones

If this is a 720 (and it might be), it is a repaint with a non-original fork. The vintage trek catalogs are online and you can look at them. Over the years that the bike was manufactured, it came in a few different colors but red was not one of them and it did not come with a chrome fork. Also you will want to look at the Trek 600 series as some of those also came with cantilevers.

Why do you think it is a 1983 Trek 720? Here is the url for the website with the catalogs: https://www.vintage-trek.com/TrekBrochures.htm

If you look at the 1983 Trek 720, you'll notice that not only is the color different but so is the seat stay cluster. Looks like that seat stay cluster was used in a little later bikes; here are the '85 touring bikes, https://www.vintage-trek.com/images/t...rekTouring.pdf

^ What he said. Also, the bottom bracket shell is from post-1983.

According to vintage trek the serial 107769 comes up as a 1983 trek 720, doesn't look like a repaint

If it's not a repaint, the decal and badge are from 1988, at least.

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

You're gonna hate that non-original chrome fork; better mail it straight to me.

In fact, just send me whole bike.

The seatpost binder bolt isn't right for an '83 720. It wasn't integrated in the style that yours is. Graphics are definitely late 80's. I'm gonna call this as an '89 520?

I don't think this bike is a 720 from 1983 coz I have one to compare. Think this bike got a lot of replacements done and for sure its a vintage trek but definitely not the well sought after 720 of 1983.
