Leather spot remover

My wonderful seat has just acquired this drip spot. It's stored in side but the roof leaked.
I need a spot remover.

I hate to say it but, I doubt that is removable. The leather is stained now. Not just water. Whatever the water picked up while it migrated through the roof. Looking at the corrosion around the rivets, it looks like the whole saddle got wet.

If it were mine, I would just try to darken it up some with Proofide, and hope for the best.

I agree that the stain is not removable. Though Rootboy is probably right, that the offending water probably wasn't pure, I doubt the impurities in the water have much to do with the discoloration. Simply making the leather wet will darken it. I don't know exactly what happens; I guess some tannin remains in the leather after manufacture, and every time it gets wet, the tannin becomes active again.

You could probably get the whole saddle wet and get it all to darken to the same color, but I won't recommend that. Every time you get it wet, it will dry a little harder.

Reminds me of an old Lenny Bruce routine, where a guy goes to a dry cleaner with a suede jacket that has a snot stain on it.

"Sorry. You can't get snot stains out of suede."

"Well, what do I do then?"

"Just snot all over the whole thing."

Perhaps I'm reading it wrong, but is there a marking there that says "Grouper"? That's quite a saddle - the name fits

Good luck - I hope you find a fix one way or the other!

"Croupon" is French for "butt leather."

I can see I "misspelled" it, now. So this saddle is made from leather covering the bovine derriere? Interesting...

Yes, but I don't think "butt" has exactly the same meaning when referring to oxhide as when referring to human anatomy. As I understand it, butt leather is from the back, and is distinguished from shoulder and belly.

Now, if it was really the hide of grouper, you'd really have something there.

Gotta wonder about longevity, tho, huh? And a funny smell...

I really thought "Grouper" was the model name - that saddle looks massive and comfy

Just an fyi from a foodie: the cut of meat called boston butt consists of the shoulder blade and all of the surrounding muscles from the pig.

So then, if your saddle is made from pig skin, all bets are off.

I would try saddle soap, that area is prone to wearing. Maybe after a few rides it will lighten up.

I tried saddle soap it didn't do much, if kiwi saddle soap is what you thinking. I'll try the vinegar. It is a ADGA saddle. It's on the cargo bike I have posted here some where.
