Somec Upgrades

Hey guys just want to thank everyone on the advice given to me so far on various upgrades I've condidered for her!
So far I've added
Cinelli bar and stem combo
White Bartape
Stonglight Chainsets
KMC Chain
And new Shimano cassette.

Riding like a dream at the moment!
As you can see from the photos the frame is really scratched up, is it worth a new paintjob?
The original is such a sweet design, seems a shame to go over it.
Also as I mentioned on the other thread a new wheelset is probably high on the next upgrade list.

Thanks for looking!

Bikes: blue ones.

Nice!

And don't repaint... perhaps some new decals, but the paint is only original once. Careful with locks and bike racks!

No. Absolutely not. (All those speckles in the paint were put there by the manufacturer. )

A good paint job is tough to do (unless you are an experienced painter, in which case you know already) and expensive. Before too long it would pick up more scratches anyway. Since the original paint is "such a sweet design" in your words, why change it? As spoken here in C&V quite often - "It is original only once." It's your bike so do what you wish, but if you like it already how would you improve it?

Same answer, or almost the same. Why? Are they out of true so badly they can't be fixed? Do you want something wider? Or narrower? Are the bearing races shot? You probably won't find anything much lighter than your 20-spoke front wheel. The rear looks perfectly fine. If they are mismatched and that bothers you, then look for wheels but don't expect a real upgrade per se. (FWIW, I've ridden thousands of miles on wheels where the rim labels didn't match and the C&V police haven't caught me yet.)

Nice bike. Ride it, own it.

Haha think your right. Any ideas on giving the paint job a bit of lift? Anything else you'd recommend changing?

It probably is the mismatch that bothers me haha, I've had a bit of problem with the rear wheel in the past, with the spokes being rusted into the rim. But it is riding well at the moment.
Maybe I should stop tinkering for a while haha

What helps is a good run down with soapy water and then something more like the stuff you use for making cars shiny, like wax. Many scratches and the like look much worse because the dirt and blackish grease in them. Other than that it's looking great!

BTW I'll be riding mine for the first long organized ride of the season this weekend, definitely no better tool for the job than a high zoot Somec.
