Peugeot Identification...help please!
Ok, so I got a Peugeot from a friends' dad for a grand total of $50. It came to my friend when he worked in a bike shop - the original owner gave it to them for whatever reason. It's in fairly nice condition, I will spray some frame saver on the inside as the very bottom of the seat post and stem were a bit rusty.
I have a feeling this might be from Germany? My friend thinks he remembers the owner stating that he bought it over there, but could be mistaken. Either way, I can't seem to find it in US, French, UK or German catalogs. I do know it is mid 80s - most likely 87 if the first part of the S/N (Y706) means what I think it does. The handlebars shown are not original, nor are the wheels (though the wheels that were on it were also 27", but they could be old. They are over at my friends' house, and he swapped them with wheels from his 70-something Peugeot for whatever reason).
I know it isn't high end, but it will be a nice commuter once I make a few changes.
It appears to be internally brazed. So, without further ado:
It came with ratty old black mountain bike handlebars, and they put the ones shown on in the shop:
Changed the bars to be more to my liking:
Weinmann centerpull brakes:
There's no sticker indicating model, size, etc. Just the stamped S/N
Huret Jubilee??
Swiss-made kickstand:
Carbolite decal that befuddles me. Is Carbolite+ the same as 103?I haven't seen this particular decal in any of the catalogs that had pictures of it, nor can I really find much of anythign on google
SInce it will be seeign commuter service, I am going to be changing the drivetrain to a shimano 7 sp. indexed system with a triple up front, and clean up the original parts and pack them away. I thought it was a bit heavy, then I picked up my Schwinn Suburban and the Peugeot felt as light as can be, hehe.
EDIT: I didn't get a picture of it, but there is a rear tire generator with a mount that was obviously made with the frame and welded onto it

Those were my initial thoughts as well, but a look into at least the US catalog boasts braze-ons for bottle cages. No idea about the German catalog, though. It has been a good 11 years since I last sat in German class

It does look like some sort of P8/P6 variant with some accessories possibly added to it. Could this be a Canadien model market model? IIRC, the "winged" version of the lion decal on the bike's head tube came out around 1985, so 86/86 is a good possibility for the model year of the bike. By that time Peugeot was really starting to use a lot of non French items on their bikes so it's surprising to see so much French components on the bike and the Peugeot made Carbolite 103 tubing. I suspect that they were pretty much just finishing of their factory warehouse stocks of the stuff with models like this one.
