I'm up to 150 miles of road cycling in April now, all since last Sunday, and I took Friday and Saturday off! Thunderstorms tomorrow may kill my momentum.

MTD 346.4 miles with 19,357 feet.
I may miss my 400 mile goal this month. Dealing with some lower leg pain so I took off Monday thru Friday last week to let it rest, but still bothering me this weekend, so I won't ride this week, then I'll be out of town all next weekend.

It is good to see that the good weather has hit so many and that everyone is out riding.
For me, I was out riding both Sat. and Sun. Sat. was in the high 70's and Sun was in the 60's. Having only began riding this year, it was very different riding without a jacket or tights on. Jersey and a new bib shorts were all that I had. I think I also was able to do better in the warmer weather. Muscles did feel better with the heat.
O Sat., I had some family occasion to attend so I only had 2 hrs to ride so I ran down the Bethpage bikeway up to Merrick Rd and turned back for a total of 28.9 miles. As I was approaching the area by the high tension wires, I heard some noise and it turned out to be my water bottle cage broke. NEVER buy plastic water bottle cages. Lasting 2 months is lousy. Being pressed for time, I decided to bypass the LIE service rd section and turn for home when I hit Washington. On my way back, I saw a large group of riders heading south on Central Park Rd in Plainview. Would love to know if that was the Massapequa or L.I. bike club. Being that it was noon, I suspect that they were heading back to the Bethpage library and it must have been the Massapequa Bike Club. Will need to find out. Seemed like a great bunch and wee very cordial as they passed displaying a wave from everyone.
Sunday, I had a little more time but enjoyed the route and did it again and then when finishing continued for more. It was cooler so I still wore a bib short and jersey but this time, I also wore a windbreaker. Very comfortable. This ride turned out to be 41.8 miles. On the way back, I did hit the hill along the service road and decided to check out the bike path bulletin board. Someone rode up quieter than a church mouse to the other side. If I hadn't seen the feet and tires, I would have fallen off my bike if we left at the same time since we were headed in opposite directions. Very nice people. Had a nice discussion about the Nassau Suffolk ride. So many nice people I have met while riding. Really makes one happy to be apart of the biking community.
With rain promised on Monday, I decided to take my rest day today.
What a great weekend. 70.7 miles outside of riding. Also looks like I will be upping my goal by the end of the week. That also feels good too.

GOAL: 250 non-commuting miles (I commute 72 miles per week but I'm not counting those)
MTD: 112
Park Loops on Wednesday (tempo ride)
Painfully slow group ride yesterday. It was a no drop ride and we had some strugglers who fell off the back with the slightest change in elevation so most of the day was spent regrouping instead of riding. Only got interesting when I decided to go set some personal records on the bridge overpasses
My baby girl. Ain't she a beauty?
Hopefully I'll be saying sayonara to you blokes by the end of the month!!! I'm going to be a super lightweight TDF rider!!!!! Thanks for all the support guys! I'll give y'all a shoutout when I drop Contador and Froome on the ascent to the finish
Thoughts: Lost a weekend due to a hamstring injury but thank god it wasn't as bad as I initially thought. I feel extremely fit and I'm really contemplating doing a century ride next weekend if the weather allows. Top it off I ordered a new tubeless wheelset, which should shave 1lb off my bike and offer better ride quality since I can run lower pressures without fear of getting pinch flats. Its a 18/24 spoke count and a rider limit of 210lbs, so buying this wheel is a commitment to never gaining excess weight again (started the year at around 212-215lbs).

Well, we had some rain last night and so this morning everything was very wet and puddles everywhere. I figured that I would take it slower, use higher gears for more stress to legs instead of the cardio and do what I could. Wile riding, it did rain a little. Glad the Sugoi Zap jacket covered me well and kept me rain dry (sweat dry I wasn't but zipping it opened a little helped when it wasn't raining.). Only did 12.4 miles but it was better than nothing. With the family having appointments until later, I might get some time when I get home from work for a few more miles. the day isn't done yet!!!!
Even in the rain, the hour ride was lots of fun.
On a different note, I decided to scope out a new path to ride last night. It was late but I was already out returning 2 broken bottle cages (1 mo. old) and looking for alternatives. I went to check out North of Syosset and follow the paths the state listed in their pamphlet. They went up along the shore a little but more importantly, if you follow them clockwise, it seems all you do is climb and climb some more. Some nice paths but some where a wall forms the right side and you are in the only lane of traffic. Not sure NY meant for this to be a bike route but I will need to see if I can do it at daybreak. In the dark, it might be too difficult. It does though look to be a good workout but wil take me double the time- for now. Need to see how I can incorporate it into my rides.
If you are on Long Island and would like to see the map of paths, it can be found here:

Just a note. The dotted red are more like proposed connecting paths and are not yet made into bike paths so tread carefully.
