So our police department had their abandoned bike/property sale this weekend ... it was a silent auction type thing. I'm trying, gently, to get my wife into riding and she's expressed an interest in riding the local rail trail ... which isn't paved and is definitely not suitable for road bike tires, so we found a couple of mountain bikes and picked them up cheap.
They're not spectacular, and need some work (can you say winter projects?) but it's a start.
Mine is a 90s or 00s Schwinn ... I forget the model. Wife's is a big box beater, so I'm hoping I can wrench on it enough to get it serviceable. I'd be happy if we can work up to her riding up the trail to the next town. Beyond that and we'll consider getting her a better bike. It was difficult, because she's short so bikes in her size were limited at best ... but it was only $15. Mine was $30.

I looked HARD at that tent but couldn't bring myself to spend that dope on it, settled for the kelty salida 1p tent for $107 and only 3.5 lbs packed weight. I did add a ground tarp just in case for another 20 bucks. It worked for my tour and the money saved bought me two hotel nights
I have their Seedhouse SL 2. While touring in SD in 2015 I tripped on a small tree stump in the dark and fell into the tent. Bent a pole and separated some of the door's mesh from the base. Someday I will stop being lazy and send it back to BA for repair. (They do cheap work so I am told.) I like that tent for flatter routes because there is more headroom than the Fly Creek.

50ish ... sustained north winds between 10 and 15 mph ... bit of a character builder today ....
It did, however, give me the opportunity to try out my Novara Headwind Jacket I bought from REI on clearance. All in all, it's a good piece of kit. Definitely took the bite out of the wind, and I was able to regulate my temp pretty well by opening and closing the zipper as needed. My only real gripe is while it fits fine, it's a bit flappy in the arms, but that's a minor quibble. Apparently there's still a few left in XXL if you guys are looking. FWIW I'm 6'3, around 285 currently.

Unfortunately health is stopping me. The bike weighs more than my neurosurgeon will allow me to lift with a broken back. Plus, the last round of chemo absolutely wore me out. I finished on Saturday and I'm still just wiped out. I'd bet if I did a blood test right now, my white, red and platelet count would be amazingly low.

I got roped into this stupid coed bridal party tonight. Even trying the "cancer card" couldn't get me out of this. I'm in this town in the middle of nowhere - called "Highland". We had to through 2 fruit checks and a border crossing to get here.

38 degrees here this morning ... told myself last night I could handle it, would just bundle up.
6:30 a.m. and I'm taking the dogs out ... NOPE ... I'll wait, supposed to warm up anyway. Was in the mid 50s around lunch today when I rode, which was nice. I organized the backroom where my cycling stuff resides this past weekend ... not a perfect system by any stretch, but it's better than it was.

So this finally happened!
It is AMAZING how weak my legs are! I spun fairly quickly for 15 minutes. Today my legs are extremely weak. They're not sore, but just don't want to obey. It feels good though. I need to get the saddle up higher though.
