Hey ChefIsaac, it's a little difficult for me to pop by (the Atlantic is hard to cycle over!), can you please pass on my wishes for a speedy, full recovery to Neil for me?

Many thanks!

Hey Neil,

I hope everything is well, my friend. Why don't you PM me or email me (cyclist1961(at)yahoo.ca) so we can catch up. I am now living in Canada in a GREAT area for riding, should you ever get a case of wanderlust.

Be well my friend,

Brian J.

Paoli. The town was named for the Paoli Tavern, which was itself named for the Corsican General Pasquale Paoli. The town's historical significance is that the British routed Continental troops in the Battle of Paoli on September 20, 1777. The town later became a stop on the "Main Line" of the Pennsylvania Railroad and a haven for wealthy businessmen who wanted to live outside downtown Philadelphia but remain close enough to work in the city.

A PE is serious, since there's always a chance the clot can break free and lodge in the heart or brain. My Physical Therapist put 2 and 2 together during our session on Tuesday; noting my elevated heart rate when exercising, fatigue, and low O2 content in my breath, she consulted the Rehab doctors, who sent me over for a CT scan. She probably saved my life.

I'm home now, on two different blood thinners. I'm very tired, but very glad I dodged a bullet.

Fear of death is a great motivator. Or at least in this case it was. Two of my sisters drove me home. :-)

I think we're all allergic to shark bites, Telly. (And no, I didn't have to look it up. )

Speaking of food.... I had my first full meal since my illness Monday. Pasta with a meat sauce of chicken, sausage, and mushroom. And a LOT of it. Amazing how your appetite comes back when you aren't in a hospital bed.

First day at home on the new knees was a mixed bag. I can handle the Lovanox injections for a few days until they are discontinued. I have people who will help me with almost everything I need. I have six weeks of home care courtesy my health insurance. But aside from the toilet, almost all the seated surfaces in the home are too low or lack good places to raise myself with. I spent hours trapped in the recliner before I was helped out. My legs screamed from being in one place so long.

And thanks to the lurker who sent me the two chess books, GM John Nunn's 1001 Deadly Checkmates and GM Lev Alburt's A Fresh Look at Chess. The latter book is a collection of amateur games sent into GM Alburt's Chess Life column. I was pleased to see someone I played a dozen years ago had a game included in the book.

I'm homebound for the next six weeks, so I'll be easy to find. Just keep in mind I can't do much aside from talk at the moment.
