Miles are piling up very quickly. Pulled the worn out and squeeky bottom bracket out of the workhorse of my bike fleet last night and didn't have enough time to get it back together. Took the sturdy and much heavier cross bike for today's commute instead. Was a slow roll to work and back.
With today's commute, am at 503 miles for the month.

First 7 days of May has me at 118 miles, still have 500 in site. Got rained on today so cut short. Rain forecast for Wednesday, so that will be a day to rest legs, then back at it on Thursday. Got to increase length of rides. Just waiting for butt to harden.

Headed out to do my "Godde Hill Loop" and a few miles into the ride, looking down at the drive train, I noticed that my rear blinky was brighter than usual and was reflecting off the drive train more that normal. Looking at the light, it was pointed straight down. Uugh. I didn't tighten it enough when I switched it from one bike to the bike I was riding. Turned around and went home to tighten it up. (Maybe I really should carry a multi-tool?) Then, headed out on my Loop again, and when I got to the top of Godde Hill, it was getting pretty dark and due to the descent, didn't really look at the computer. At the bottom, after making that last turn and going into TT mode, I wanted to check my speed, but couldn't wake up the Garmin Edge 800. Stopped and sure enough ... it was frozen, displaying the last information, 8.59 miles, 122 heart rate, 26.1 mph. From that data, it looks like it froze about 100 meters into the descent from the summit. Got onto the Garmin web site to see if the thing was still in warranty, and they explained how to do a hard reset. The thing "woke up" after holding the power key for a few moments, and all seems to be fine now ... except that the ride was cut off at the point it froze. Values below are what I'm claiming, based on previous rides on the Loop. Strava Link shows the abbreviated ride as recorded, up to the time it froze.

Last minute entry into a 100k brevet not all that far from home. Set a new PB for a 100 which meant I could get back home before the traffic went from silly to truly bonkers.

5/8 - ~11.75 This is the first I've been on a bike this month for one reason and another. I had to take my back-up bike, a Trek Navigator, today. Both tires were flat, the chain was dry, the computer dead and the saddle was set to my daughter's preferred height and she's quite a bit taller than me, so I had some work to do first. I haven't ridden this bike in years and oh, how much nicer my Safari is than the Trek. I should be able to get the Safari out of the shop tomorrow evening all shiny and spiffed up. I'm having them put some narrower, smoother tires on it whilst they're at it. Maybe I'll be able to go faster, longer!

5-8 20 miles. Took the scenic route home, i.e. surface streets. The bike path is getting too crowded in the afternoon. I don't mind that people are out for walks and jogging and such; that's what the trail is there for. But, all of the Lance Armstrong wannabes think that's a great time to "train" as well. MUPs aren't the place for that. At least not during rush hour. /rant
MTD 100 miles.
Will be out of town for the next 5 days. Will actually be the longest without a ride since I started over the winter. Hopefully I'll have some super fresh legs when I get back and can make up for the days lost.

Thanks, I'm excited about getting it back! I'm encouraged to hear your upgrades made a difference. I managed to bruise the heel of my hand riding the Trek today. Maybe it was all the tire pumping. I was wearing gloves too.

Well, I'm bummed.
In my last post, I mentioned that I had a busted spoke. I took it to the Trek store on Tuesday, and was told I would have it back by the weekened. I was wondering why it would take 3 days for a 30 minute job, but I didn't complain.
Now today I get a call saying that instead of replacing the spoke, they are replacing the whole rim. (old rim had about 200 miles on it) Its free under warranty, so I guess that is good, but it seems like an odd policy. (they said the rim is undamaged, but Trek corporate won't pay them for labor, so they have to request a new rim.) Now I won't have my bike back until Tuesday.
I'm going to drop my goal to 156 miles, since I still want to complete the strava challenge.

Or just give me a wheel off the sales floor. Since my bike is a 2013 model, the new wheel will be the same one on all 2013 models. I wonder if they would take a wheel of one of their bikes, then when my wheel comes in tuesday, they can put it back on their bike and get it back out on the sales floor.

I will be throwing out my entire estimate this month as I miss 2 entire weeks while the LBS *has* my bike, *in case* they get in stock parts to the store, but then are *stuck* with them when I don't come back to have them installed. I was quoted on the 30th that they'd order parts, then they'd be able to do my upgrade by today the 9th, so out of kindness, I dropped it off Saturday the 4th. Today I stopped by having not heard anything, only to find out my parts aren't even IN THE STORE and that they now have me scheduled for installation NEXT Thursday!
OMG I'm so pissed, they are just holding my bike as ransom so that I'll actually pay for the parts that they are ordering from their own warehouse. I should've just gotten the parts list myself, ordered them and brought them in for same day installation, then at least I'd have had a bike to ride these two weeks. Either that or they should've let me pre-pay for the parts, then they'd be assured I'd come in to either pick them up or have them installed. Overall, for a bike shop that's been outstanding up to now, this is a very discouraging development. I posted to a few social networks to see if they want to try and improve their situation, see if that does anything.

10 miles today, between rainstorms. Thunder and severe weather did not materialize. Got home just as the rain started in again.
