Dawes Eclipse 1.0 from Bikesdirect?

I am looking for a bike as my daily commuter, nothing fancy. I don't feel like spending a lot of money on it, but I do want a bike that's somewhat durable and not too cheaply made. I found this Dawes Eclipse 1.0 on Bikesdirect, does anybody own one and could give me some review on it? Any suggestions or advice are welcome!

Bikes: 2007 Trek SU100, 2009 Fantom CX, 2012 Fantom Cross Uno, Bakfiets

Helpful linkage:
Save up to 60% off new Comfort Bikes - Dawes Eclipse 1.0

Seems like it would do the job for a while... depending on how far/fast/hilly the commute is.

Bikes: It's the motor, not the bike, right?

That's got some lower end parts on it, but definitely a step up from a department store bike. What's your experience level with bikes, how much will you be riding, etc.? If you're just getting into cycling and want to see if commuting is your thing, it's a perfectly fine bike. Down the road if you get more serious you might find you want something a little more aggressive or durable.

Seems like it would make a fine commuter. It even comes with 36 spoke wheels, which are theoretically stronger than what most bikes come with. The 14-34 cassette and triple crank will give you plenty of range for any terrain. 700x28 tires are a good fit for commuting. I say go for it.

Be prepared for some mild assembly and initial adjustments after receiving it. My BD bike came with wheels that were out of true, a loose headset, shifters that needed some slight tuning, and brakes that were not fully attached to the frame, for example. Nothing overly difficult, but just to make you aware of what type of assembly may be required on your end.
