Wives?
I think I feel sorry, I am not sure I could do multiple wives.
I also do math in my head. I like to practice long division and big number multiplication.
I will certainly talk to myself about things; watch out for this guy, pedal harder, come on you can catch this guy, okay coast you won't make this light, those types of things.
When I used to swim in HS and university I used to talk to myself, in Spanish. I used to have practice conversations all through HS which really helped me learn the language. I also used to think through my research and it helped me to structure my approaches and clarify my conclusions.

The thread title reminds me of the text adventure game called "Zork." Anyone remember playing that? I'm dating myself, I know. When typing in commands it didn't understand it would reply: "Talking to yourself is a sign of impending mental collapse." Thankfully that's not true. ...Or is it?
To keep it on topic, yes I sometimes talk to myself. But usually complaining about a ped or driver doing something goofy.

I think 'Zork' was an old 'Infocom' text adventure.. loved them, especially 'Rendezvous with Rama'.. Available on the DOS Archive here..along with the sequels.. https://archive.org/details/msdos_Zo...f_Megaboz_1988

Honestly, yes. When I drive or ride, usually the lyrics of a song or two. I also find when I bike commute, I yell at passing motorists more and more for the dumb things they do (pass too closely, running red lights/stop signs, speeding up to pass only to immediately slow down, crossing the fog line,etc.). For the record, I don't do any of those things when I drive

Meh the usual inner monologue/self-talk plus an imaginary friend or two along for the ride to whisper sweet nothings to
EDIT: also similar to the above poster, whatever tunes I have been listening to the last few days, maybe a top 10 hit or something from an old college playlist is stuck in my head; usually have music along with me to take care of that

I was talking to myself on the way home last night.
"Damn, I'm tired."
"No, you're not. Step on it; that'll wake you up."
"F that. I'm tired."
"Don't be a puss. Give it hell for a few miles."
"Oh...Ok. If you insist."
That's pretty much the gist of that conversation.

Bikes: A few older US made Cannondales, a modern Soma Saga (no longer made, alas!), and one gifted crabon Specialized. Never enough.

I talk to myself all the time, so not any different when pedaling. I tend to rant about some drivers, like the driver on the phone AND applying makeup last week. Never loud enough to hear me, thanks to my soft spoken manner. Thanks to bluetooth attachments, I don't get quite the number of looks as in the past!

I can't stand talking to myself, I'm the most critical person I know. So I've thrown myself into listening to audiobooks on my rides. It's been amazingly educational. Just in 2016 I've listened to 5 books on Buddhism, one on the life of Christ, one lengthy history of Islam, a book on General Patton, one on Ronald Reagan, and a book on a covered wagon trip on the Oregon Trail. Right now, I'm listening to a fascinating history of bicycles book called "It's All About the Bike".
I check them all out free online from the local library. There's thousands of them available, I'll never get through it all. When I'm bored with audiobooks, I listen to music.
Can't stand talking to myself - I'm such a critical nag.

Does talking in your head count? I only ever say 3 things aloud when riding. AHHHHH when hands are starting to get frostbitten in the winter, Ughhhhh when it is hot, humid, and feel like passing out in the heat, and MMMMMMM when I power up for a top speed sprint or hill climb.

I always "talk" to the cagers passing me, I say have a nice day, have a great day, have a great rip.. depending on how far the space they leave between me and them... Now sometimes, I also say F'you , or I hope to see you in the ditch around the next corner, or I hope you have a terrible day... It all depends on how fast/and how much room they leave between me and them.... And You know what 99% of the time it's all positive. Makes for a great ride because 99% positive makes me forget the 1% negative...

I definitely whistle, sing, and holler at good looking women and or funny old-age commuters.
I have fun on the bike basically.

I, too, enjoy talking to animals on my ride. Especially rabbits.
"Bun-bun, make the right choice!" I try to talk in a firm but quiet tone. They're usually so scared, it's sad. I don't want to kill one, or have one strung through my spokes and I wreck.
I also like to pull dramatic faces and say "Gaaaaaaaaaarbage!" in equally dramatic tone when I ride by a solid waste management area and the wind is wrong. The smell can be eye-watering and gag-inducing. Behind the fencing just off the trail, mountains of garbage are being moved around by earth-moving (garbage-moving?) equipment, coupled with the rumblings and beeps of what seems like thousands of backing-up garbage trucks. Early mornings it's never bad, but warm afternoons when the wind's right--gaaaaag.
I also definitely cuss and grumble when a likely-homeless man is relaxing right at the edge of the trail with his bicycle in the grass next to him, smoking a Swisher Sweet. It's always next to a rather significant incline that I'm huffing my large bottom up, so it's usually stuff like, "Lungs working here, sir."
There's also a person who parks at the dog park at 6am when I'm puffing up another hill, with their car door ajar and smoking weed. I grumble then, too. Every morning, like clockwork, they are there, always getting high. And to think that marijuana enthusiasts insist it's not addictive?
Like others have said, I often ride to try to escape my monkey mind negative chatter, so I enjoy focusing on breath and form, and keep taking in the wonder of our beautiful planet when I ride. I also sing fragments of songs like a crazed person.

Yes, I occasionally talk to my self on the bike. The most awesome people I know all talk to themselves. But I would rather spend my bike ride talking to God. He's a much better listener and what better place to have a mountain top experience than on a mountain bike.

Agreed
You're right, time spent with the Higher Power is certainly better than spinning my own hamster wheel of despair, that's for sure.

For me it's usually just "thinking out loud" more than anything else. Like I'll just be thinking about some topic and start uttering the words I'm thinking out loud. Luckily my camera doesn't pick up such nonsense speak. It'll pick up things like me yelling at motorists doing stupid stuff.
Then there's BikeBlogger in St. Louis, who basically vlogs while commuting, and to anyone around I'm sure it looks/sounds like he's talking to himself.
