That's almost miraculous, in a Keanu Reeves whoa kind of way.

Yesterday: a nice pair of diagonal cutters with plastic-dipped handles; some scrap metal I can use to make a reflector mount.

Over time:

Two reflective vests and one reflective shirt, which I'm using as riding gear because its sleeves stick out beyond my backpack. I'm thinking of cutting up one and adding the stripes to my backpack and helmet.

A working GoPro-style video camera, minus mount. This came with movies of a family's trip to the beach, but no sign how to contact them. I'm a little scared to plug it into my USB port since USB is so vulnerable, but you'd have to be extra paranoid to think someone left a device by the side of the road as a way to get a foothold in a network. Maybe I am that paranoid.

Several phones and phone cases. None working.

So much waste plastic.

Loose highway reflectors. These are just glued down, and they pop off.

Straps of all kinds. And bungie cords. So many bungie cords. I've sworn off using bungie cords because they must really want to be free.

This. This is getting old. Fortunately there was a big hole in traffic, and I was able to go around, over the rumble strip and get to work.

Never have seen anyone around to ask about this thing. I obviously walks, but don't know what it for, maybe a movie prop?? Did not bring it home.

Usually don't find much in the city because we have street cleaning. Sometimes I find micro USB cables that are always run over (shame because I could use more of those!) I also find working Bic lighters with fuel still in them pretty often. I haven't bought a lighter in years. One time on my commute to work, I found a box full of bike parts on the curb that someone put out. I took some hose clamps and a bottle of Tri Flow and left the rest.

A few years back, when I did a 2500 mile tour of the Northeast / Atlantic Canada:

• While climbing a mountain in West Virginia, I found a whole box of home canned goods in mason jars on the side of the road. I took one that looked like cabbage, and another that looked like some kind of jam. I opened them at my friend's place when I got to DC. We pitched the cabbage because it smelled a little funky, but we made French toast with the jam and it was delicious!
• Found 5 license plates on the side of the road. Pennsylvania, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and 2 Newfoundland and Labradors.
• Lots of bungie cords. I took a few for strapping things to my rack.

There was a really nice vice grip out on the road yesterday. Unfortunately, it was a bit too big to fit in my jersey pockets.

Rode past a retractable dog leash this morning. If it's still there tomorrow I'll pick it up and give it to somebody with a dog. Or maybe try to flip it on CL for $5 or something, as I'm gearing up to post a bunch of stuff on CL

NYS Route 9 gave up its bounty to me on Friday.

i was thinking I could somehow turn that center item into a new front fork.

I was riding through the Pacific NW and it was raining like a moth^%fu%#$. It was a highway and there were a lot of RVs and logging trucks. I pulled over and zip-tied a blinky light to my helmet. All I had were long zip-ties but nothing to cut them with. Before I got back on the bike I walked into the woods to pee. I entered an obvious abandoned homeless camp and while I was peeing, I looked down and saw that I was peeing on a Klien wire stripper and cutter. Not only a nice tool but I could have trimmed the zip-ties. I guess I could have sprayed them off with a water bottle but I left them.

Or just held them out into the moth^%fu%#$in rain

Yesterday I found a set of car keys with a local gym membership fob.

So, I dropped them off at the gym. I suggested they look up the gym membership and call the person, but the lady at the counter wanted to just toss it into the lost and found. I don't know if reason prevailed.

Hopefully the person that lost it will remember the keys had the gym membership fob on them.

Damned nice saw, but I had no way to carry it, and damned if I was going to put it in the pocket of an expensive wool jersey with those long, razor sharp teeth.

I found a saw like that (not a high-end brand like Stihl), "in" (and a little bit out of) the box, at an intersection where a shopper had made their first fast turn after buying it at Home Despot and leaving it on their roof when they drove away

About 3 weeks ago i found a baby snake on the sidewalk on its way out in the road. So I immediately jumped off my bike and chased it into some bushes so it wouldn't be run over.
Then last week i found a big, maybe 80-90cm snake crossing the bike path. Came close to running it over. It was in a hurry.

You're going ot have a set at this rate Korina. I found the same basic thing this morning too. There's a park district facility accross the street from my condo, and there is a no parking zone for us peasants in front of it. The park district employs some middle aged woman who regularly parks in this no parking zone instead of the parking lot they expanded to accomodate all of their customers. I guess she doesn't believe in the benefits of exercise enough to incorporate it into her daily life, or isn't healthy enough to walk from the parking lot to the building..

That to me looks like a broken down vehicle. Not sure what other options they have in that case. I guess they could put it in neutral and push and hope they're fast enough to keep up with traffic.

I'm not complaining about the why of it; mostly it's about having to ride on the highway, when the Humboldt Bay Trail will be going in about 30' to the right of that truck. In 3-4 years.

This morning it was all about stopping under the eucalyptus and cleaning up after yesterday's winds; small branches abounded, with a couple of medium branches, and gazillions of those annoying seed pods. I may have stopped six times picking up branches.
