I don't know about a child, but around here coyotes eat a lot of cats. I once came across a coyote with something in its mouth, walking down the street early in the morning. I was in my car, I slowly followed it, before long it spooked, dropped its stuff, and ran off. I got out to see what it had been carrying, it was the front half of a cat.

There are a lot of missing cats in our area as well. The grounds crew of the complex we used to live were clearing brush and found a den with many cat collars around it. A coyote kept following a friend one morning, a friend who is over 6 feet and not dainty.

You're right a child might be a stretch. But in the park they were concerned about an unsuspecting child approaching one thinking it was a dog. Regardless, good thing to keep them a bit afraid of people.

If you are a farmer, you have to figure out how many cats you want around the farm. Because sad but true that half or more of your nice cute kittens offsprings would be lost to Coyotes in spring and summer time.

Sure they are nice, then you realize you're not at the top of the food chain. On a woodsy commute, I had one start on the other end of a boardwalk going towards me. Broad daylight. 40 ft away wouldn't back down. I then clapped, shouted and banged my bike, it back off, but kept me in sight. At least 45-50 lbs.

I live in town, but my backyard is adjacent to land categorized as a "100-year flood plain", so it cannot be developed.
Coyotes have moved into it over the past year, so now in the evenings we are often serenaded by a brief "coyote chorus".

Hahaha...this happened to me once and I was pissed all day, till I got home and removed my pants and it had just slipped down and was below my pant leg around my sock. Stooopid!

Last year sometime I found an 8mm wrench on the Sloan Ave overpass, where it goes over the train tracks. A nice chromed one, 8 mm open at one end, ratcheting box at the other.
Yesterday, going over the same bridge, I found another one. Different brand, but also an 8 mm open and ratcheting box end wrench. Next time I'm hoping for a 9mm or a 10mm.

dang! ratcheting box end is a cool feature. I found one of those once, forget what size, but mostly I find just regular combo wrenches.

Found a nice nylon cutting board today. To big to carry on while riding so I returned in the car to pick it up. Does that count?

Numerous scissors for some reason at different places and times. I am well fixed for scissors now. Small change, infant pacifiers, numerous socket wrenches, some odd specialized pliers, credit cards, cell phones and a man's toiletry kit bag containing several live .25 cal. pistol rounds which I dumped in a river. I commute with panniers so transporting finds is usually easy.

Many towns and even larger cities. Foxes and coyotes are becoming urbanized along with most of us humans.

Ohh and the raccoons.

Today:

1. Full, unused roll of toilet paper.

2. 18' dog leash, (but no dog).

A couple weeks ago I found the frame for some Oakley M-Frame sunglasses. They were camo and pretty well smashed. I found an iPhone 6 that had been run over and was totally useless. Mostly around here though, I find used hypodermic needles - sometimes there's still heroin in them!

Saw a very fat, round robin bird on the street this morning that was apparently dead, but was sitting upright with eyes open. Looked super weird and creepy.

This was posted in a friend's building. I just thought it pertained to us city dwellers and wildlife.

Found $5 on the ground Saturday night. 99 more of those and I can get another beater so I don't have to ride all the time. (North central Texas spring storms can be challenging with an aerodynamic 2 ton vehicle with a windshield. Catch a 40+mph crosswind on a bike while riding a 75mph highway in poor visibility and things can get real ugly real fast.)

This past fall I was riding one morning in a different part of town and saw what looked like a downed tree... when I got closer saw it was actually an 8-9 foot alligator enjoying the sunlight on the side of the road. I've been down that way again but haven't seen it since. Only armadillos and the occasional wild hog through the trees...those are the scary ones!
