First Commute of 2017 Today

The temps in NY have finally hit the mark for this particular fair weather bike commuter. I brought the bike up from the basement last night, installed my new Cygolite Hot Shot and Metro, hooked up my mp3 player and speaker, and went to bed chomping at the bit to get up in the morning and ride to work.

It's amazing how much stuff you forget when you slip out of the groove during the winter. For example, I left home without a water bottle or a house key! By tomorrow, I should have the routine back down again.

Anyway, the am was a little chilly and I didn't feel like my super-high-lumen flashing lights were turning as many heads as I'd been told they would, but it was an exhilarating ride, regardless. I've got two more hours of work until I get to ride home, and I'm really psyched for that.

If you're in the northeast USA and you've been waiting for a cue to get back on the bike, consider this it. I'm really glad I took the bike today.

It's already summer here. 85F. We skipped winter this year. Could be all the hot air in this town.

Bikes: ...a few.

I felt that way after the winter holidays. But after a day it all comes back.

I slipped the water bottle back into the cage on Monday. Haven't used it yet.

Some heads just can't be turned with any consumer products. Just have a good ride. And you did, and I'm glad.

that's pretty funny. but even regular bike commuters can sometimes forget stuff. one winter morning I got to work my usual 2 hrs early but didn't have my office key! it was cold & I was ready to a hot shower. not dressed to stand in the cold, being wet from sweat, etc. fortunately for me, my boss' Dad was an early riser too & saved my butt when he showed up shortly after me

As per a recent thread, it takes only a few days away from commuting to throw off one's routine.

Noglider: This was my first commute with the lights I bought in the fall. Somehow, they looked a lot brighter way back then. I'm wondering if I gave them a full charge, because I was even able to look at them dead on this morning without going blind. My point about "turning heads" was that I didn't notice any drivers reacting to them and I didn't get any of those compliments other people are always getting from drivers when they pull up to a red light. Also, I think the Hot Shot blinkie may be mounted too low.

Gotta work on all this stuff tonight.

I sometimes forget my keys the day after I drive to work. They invariably get left in the pocket of my trousers, and it's usually halfway to work that I realize, damn!

No sooner do I comment that I've been commuting (successfully having never forgotten anything yet), do I go to my second job and forget my lock... so here's an 18 speed inside my 18 wheeler cab...

It works the other way around too. I drive to work about once per year and each time I forget something.

Years ago I used to commute via bike-train-bike to another state. About 10 miles of riding each way in all sorts of weather, so I wore cycling clothes and brought office clothes with me. A couple of times I forgot my BVDs. That was no fun, so I started leaving a spare pair at the office.

And this one time at band camp....

Going "commando" once in a while is mandatory....
