One of those days where a long sleeve t was perfect. Only had to yell at one person to get out of the way on the brooklyn bridge. So all in all, great commute.

essiemyra 05-31-18 05:12 AM

The commute was nice with the temp in the mid 50's f and clear skies.

Jadesfire 05-31-18 05:57 AM

I haven't commuted by bike in several months. But today is a very light schedule at work so I decided to start up again. There were two "bad" moments: getting out of bed at 4:30am, and then getting to work ad realizing just how much time it took me to get here since my fitness level has gone to pot.
But in between I got to experience the sunrise and smell the fresh green summertime, so it was worth it.

I might be singing a different tune this afternoon in 97 degree heat.

Second day of the week, commuting. Yesterday was just nice all around. Saw some people trying to move a turtle off the road. I thought they come out later in the year?
Today morning felt a little cooler than yesterday.

Haha. Same here, given that my commute to work is also in the same direction as yours. Although winds are a little calmer in the mornings.

I had to drive in this morning, but it was pleasant out and I rode with the windows down. This lets me at least pretend I'm biking.

Sights seen while driving to work:
- School bus picking up precious little ones
- Happy collie barking good morning to cars passing by
- Beautiful white and brown horses trotting around a field
- A horse urinating in the next field

Nate1991 05-31-18 06:52 AM

Thunderstorms finally cleared today, and was able to ride in 66F and really foggy with about 1/4 mile visibility at times. Still a good ride just had to be more aware at intersections.

noglider 05-31-18 07:38 AM

Nice ride. The temperature dropped a lot, and I used that as an opportunity to pedal hard and make my own heat.

I saw a dead dog floating in the river. I wondered if I should report it, but I didn't. I'm a little upset.

KCBikeCommuter 05-31-18 08:38 AM

It was cooler this morning, and light winds for about the first 10-min of my commute. Then the gust front from the thunderstorms further to the south made their presence known. The rest of the commute was into a fairly strong headwind, but at least I made it to the office before it started raining!

Yuck! Felt more like August this morning than May, right at 70F but really muggy and wet from overnight storms. I managed to get home between the storms yesterday - going to try again today

pdlamb 05-31-18 09:41 AM

Most of the tropical whatever passed by, but it left a lot of moisture in the air. Soupy humidity and warmer than I think it got all day yesterday, but there was a nice (south) headwind. I'm dreading July and August already.

HardyWeinberg 05-31-18 10:04 AM

52F, gray but bright. Took 23 mile route in, planning to take it home too, end bike month with some distance.

Amitoj 06-01-18 05:49 AM

I chickened out from bike commuting today. Yesterday's ride home was exhausting. I didn't have enough gas in the tank to battle the headwinds. Stupid 400 calorie health-conscious-cafeteria lunch.
I did wake up to get ready for bike comuting but 60% chance of thunderstorms later in the evening pushed me over to take the car instead.

Ya gotta eat, my friend! I probably eat too much, but that's cause I run too. I'm snacking all day long and make sure to eat an apple about 30 minutes before leaving work. My tank will run low on the ride if I don't. And almost immediately after I get home I eat another snack hoping dinner is not far behind.

A lovely 65F and sunny for this morning's ride. First morning of blue skies in about 2 weeks. A bit cooler and lower humidity, but I made sure to push it for a couple of miles so that I sweated as much as usual. Baby wipes to the rescue.

I slowed down to take a quick picture of the kudzu trying to grow across the road. It does this a few times every year until the county comes and cuts it back again.

Today is the first day I haven't ridden to work in a while. I decided it would be imprudent to ride to work today. First of all, there is rain. Second of all, I'm singing in a concert in Brooklyn tonight. From there, I'll take a late night bus upstate, and I'll only get a little sleep, as I'm taking a challenging hilly ride for 50 or 80 miles early in the morning. So the little bit of rest my body gets today might be useful.

arsprod 06-01-18 08:52 AM

Cooler but still very muggy and still dodging thunderstorms. Every so often a car accidentally makes its way onto the mup. They usually realize it quickly and turn around. This morning as I was coming over a river bridge I saw a large Cadillac facing across the trail working to turn around. They'd made it almost a 1/2 mile before realizing they were not on a road. I admit our trails are wide and well groomed, but c'mon! She kept signalling me to go ahead but there was no way I was getting in front of that beast.

HardyWeinberg 06-01-18 09:10 AM

Commuted 105 miles T-Th, drove today

pdlamb 06-01-18 09:15 AM

It was thundering when I woke up, and raining pretty good when I sat down to breakfast, so I took my time.

By the time I was ready to leave the house, the rain had stopped, the air was fresh and cool, it was a lovely morning to be riding! It was so pleasantly cool that I had a bit of ice left in my water bottle when I got to work; I don't think that happened the whole month of May.

HardyWeinberg 06-01-18 09:19 AM

One thing, though; we got ~0.1" of rain right at quitting time yesterday, and it resulted in standing water on streets and trails in the municipalities while out in the unincorporated county and on a nearby Indian reservation, the roads were bone-dry. Now I know the MUP is paved in a concave pattern that does focuses water onto the trail rather than allowing the trail to drain, but I'm surprised (and annoyed) that the municipal roads are so poorly drained.

I figured the concave MUP paving was a big middle finger to cyclists from some bottom dollar contractor bid.

Harhir 06-01-18 10:05 AM

No rain here. I wish we had some. Just heat. The mornings are ok with cool temperatures in the mid 80s. But the evenings are tough with temps around 98 to 99 with around 50% humidity. 100 are forecasted for tomorrow. I am afraid I will be cycling at temperatures close to to or around the triple digits for the next 3 months or so.

HardyWeinberg 06-04-18 09:43 AM

50F, sunny

It was quite cool this morning, and I was grateful for that. I didn't bring a jacket, so I made some heat by pedaling hard. The headwind started out strong and got progressively stronger. It was a pleasant ride. We had heavy rain overnight and into the morning, and it stopped soon before my ride. This seems to have scared away a lot of cyclists, so the path had lighter traffic than usual for June.

My every loving god it's been gorgeous the last 2 days

It's the best riding weather. When you walk outside and are downright chilly (but not cold) with no breeze. Just the chilly morning air that you wouldn't want to just stand around in...but when you get on the bike and start pedaling you warm up to perfect room temperature. Not cold but not hot enough to even break a sweat.

Summer can stay like this all year and it would be fine with me

Nate1991 06-05-18 07:06 AM

Yesterday and Today mornings were cool with a headwind for part of it. The return was hot yesterday and is supposed to be the same today, but not unbearable like it was a couple weeks ago. Been seeing more and more cyclists out so that's nice.

Totally agree. Low 60s, maybe even 59F this morning here. And an afternoon high in the low 80s with lower humidity is just fine. I saw a couple of friends out for a run and stopped to chat.
