Working on my first full week of the year

Hello all, just wanted to share that I'm back at it with the back and forth to work, and at 19.9 miles each way I've really had to work back into shape to be able to stack a full week of riding, but I'm halfway though the first one of the year, and I'm thinking I might shoot for a full month of the same judging by the way I feel today. We'll see if that holds true by the beginning of next week, maybe it's just the Pennsylvania spring fever talking. Happy pedaing all.

Bikes: Kuota Kredo/Chorus, Trek 7000 commuter, Trek 8000 MTB and a few others

I'm only 10 miles each way and feel like that's hard to do more the 3 times in a week.

Bikes: ...a few.

That's a lot of riding and a lot of time on the road. But more power to you if you can manage it every day. Mine is 20 km each way and I do it every day, but I think that's my limit. Anymore than this and I'd feel burnt out by the end of the week. In fact, this week's been tough; I feel burnt out already.

Wow, good for you.

My my commute is half that and quite hilly, plus there’s a lot of stop and go. The total time commitment in the saddle is as daunting to me as double my ride. My hats off to you.

I was just pedaling in this morning and thinking, last year on may 19th, I had to drive halfway and ride in, because by the end of my ride home, about the last 4 miles or so, I was so tired, I just didn't have it in me. This morning I had to keep telling myself not to jump on the pedals because I still have tonight and tomorrow left and I want to make sure I'm still feeling as good as I do today. My average speed last year on that 9 mile trip was a little over 9mph, now this week I've varied from 13 to 16, so I've gotten faster AND it's gotten easier.

I LOVE the way I feel when I stick to it, I'm actually considering trying to make this a car free month as far as work goes, we will see how that goes a few weeks in. Thanks for all the kind words, I used to wish for a longer ride when I used to live 8 miles from work, but then I got out of shape before getting this job, now I'm getting back into shape and remembering why I wanted a longer ride!

Good for you! In motorcycling there's a saying "ride your own ride" meaning you shouldn't try and worry about keeping up with the other guy, but ride in a way that you're both safe and enjoying your ride. That' sounds like what you're doing - keep up the good work!!

That is fantastic! I went through a similar ramp up for a longish 16 mile each way flat commute. I look at it this way.... I have to get to work somehow and while biking is longer than the train, I am getting multiple benefits of exercise and commuting.

Yep, I have a motorcycle as well, and I totally get what you're saying. Made it this week without issue, body is holding up well, so as long as I feel this good come Monday morning, week 2 starts.

Awesome. My commute is less, about 12mi or so, and I'd love to work up to an entire week of riding. My schedule has be traveling around usually, but I'm going to get a nice streak in the summer where I don't need to drive anywhere during the day, and hitting up the few days like today where I can ride in will build me up to it. This is great inspiration for me! Keep going!

200 mile week, wow, good for you.

My shortest possible commute would be a ~65 mile week, in the winter I push it toward 70-75 usually with errands scenic routes, etc... I am aiming for my 3rd straight 120 mile week (mostly a much more scenic route), and definitely feeling it, right now, on Wednesday, I gotta say. I have a rec ride coming up Saturday (45, 70, or 100 mile route, have to canvass my friends, but all 3 have a lot more climbing than I usually do). Curious to see how that goes.

Personally, for me, and I imagine for you, it's nice to have the time available to do that much bike commuting. Right now, if my body doesn't break down, my schedule (and my job's, and my kids') would permit 120 mile weeks the rest of May.
