This is the kind of thing that makes me consider going back to driving... If only for a couple hours...

It's a beautiful spring day and I made it .75 miles on my 6.25 mile ride home after I was already running 40 min late. I guess at least it was on the way home (important, early meetings this morning).

I guess in reality it makes me angry there is no backup transit here whereas where I used to live, I could have ridden standing up a half mile or so and caught a bus.

Hopefully your ride was better...

Note sheared bolt at bottom... No way to reattach that and continue.

Maybe I'm missing something...What's preventing a new bolt from the hardware store?

^^^^^ Most likely the fact that a hardware store is not around the corner from every location a failure in the field occurs.

You need a torque wrench as that bolt was def tightened beyond its specs for that to happen. Or it was a low-quality bolt or it was defective which we usually get sorted out on the line if it's not a spec'd bolt like it should be.

My money is on the first and an over-tightening monkey.

Yeah, that makes sense. I've had the bike about 5 years, but had a new saddle put on it about a year ago. I'll try it with a torque wrench after I get a new bolt and spacer washer.

I meant no way to fix on the spot like a blown tube or something. Home was about as easy as getting to the hardware store and a far easier/safer route to travel.

Mostly, I just wanted to vent to a community that understands the occasional hassles that come with bike commuting. My driving friends probably just see it as more evidence to just drive.

Ah, no worries. That does suck.

That still looks more comfortable than some of the new seats out there.

At least that broke in a way that you could take everything apart and replace the bad parts.
