i'm sure not seeing horizontal drops on that thing.

please don't say they're relying on a magic ratio for chain tension
Interestingly, the HeadShok frames (which the Rohloff version has) come with an eccentric BB but the non-HeadShok versions (such as the Street 700 or Vintage Nexus) come with Horizontal dropouts (at least according to the Cannondale UK site).

Despite being listed in the U.S. catalog with the “Street’ models, the Fifty-Fifty seems to share frame geometry with the “Bad Boy”. But, as you’ve noted, it does share many features with the European Nexus hub models. I’m pretty sure that I read somewhere that it has the eccentric BB vs horizontal dropouts though it’s not clear in the catalog.

go to a garge sale, buy an old 3-spd; your done....

if you want this specifically; go by an old mtb, then add fenders...

my advice; buy a crosscheck!

Oh, everybody's got a Cross-Check these days, even me!

How 'bout a Nexus 8 on that Cross Check just to be a little different?

Well, there are a lot of reasons I like euro-bikes, but I've already decided to buy the first functional, old Schwinn or Raliegh I find at a yard sale.

Who? This guy...

Perhaps its a pun on words.

Cyclocross --> road bike turned to fast off-road bike.
Crosscheck --> normal biker turned to flaming crossdresser.

Bikes: I hate bikes!

Hi,

I ride a Cannondale 50/50 w/ a sprung Brooks Champion saddle, front disc avid bb7, nitto moustache bars
Schmidt dyno hub front and rear lights, bell, regular pannier and a suit bag pannier strapped to a Jannd expidition rack. Bike must be close to 50lbs when fully loaded. I put a set of Conti town and counrty's on it. It is the Lincoln town car of bikes! While it is haevy as all get out it is a commuter and the bike feels as if I could ride it anywhere. It does have the eccentric bb. I swapped the front ring for a 38 insted of the 32 it came with. Before I had it all tricked out I rode some trails with it and it perfomred well. It is an awsome winter bike and I plan to get some studded nokians this fall. I ride an old Trek TX 500 from may to Nov. then the c'dale from Nov.to April. No complaints. The nice by product is that the Trek feels like it is made of paper when I first get on it! I ain't no weight weenie!

Did you actually talk to Bonthrond or just veiw their website? The reason I ask is that I talked to them a couple of years ago about importing a cannondale bike. They told me they couldn't ship cdale back to the USA. Cdale wouldn't allow it. Maybe times have changed. I hope so. I would love to have the Vintage Nexus Headshock. Let us know what they say.

For all of you guys thinking the 50/50 and the street or the same you need to look at the frame geometry charts. You will see the 50/50 is more mtb geometry and the street is more road geometry. Not dishing the 50/50 but I prefer road geometry on a city bike. It gets the bottom bracket height lower which lowers seat height and makes it easier to get a taller handlebar height which makes for a more upright comfy seating position. Which is what city bikes are alll about.

Here is a link for the Vintage Nexus headshock. Brooks saddle, leather grips, headshock, EBB, dynamo, ETC cool https://gb.cannondale.com/bikes/06/ce/model-6SS1.html

Here is a link to show disc brakes on a nexus hub. Something I wish Shimano would offer stateside. https://gb.cannondale.com/bikes/06/ce/model-6BS1.html

Bikes: Batavus Old Dutch

The only way these companies will start offering those bikes is when demand is up, correct? I surmise that if enough people organize(letter writting campaign, "real" petitions, etc.) to show that there is enough demand to justify brigning these kinds of bike into the market, maybe they will change thier tune faster than if we just let our wallets speak over a period of time....

No, I have not actually talked with them. I do like the bike but The price is a little rough. If I spend that much I'd rather get a Koga Miyata. This one has the the Rohloff 14 speed AND a chain guard.

The koga with rohloff would be very nice. At $3200 I don't think I can afford it. To bad Cdale doesn't sell the Nexus street here. It would probably be around $1100 on the headshock version. You might try to call bonthrone they might ship stateside now. I would think the bike you pictured would be less than 1500 if shipping costs were reasonable.

I just came back from living in Italy....That Koga of more like what people actually ride...not the 'dale. Most shops hate the nexus (mostly because they don't know how to service them...not because they are bad). Bianchi make some sweet "city bikes" that are not brought here. Low end shimano drive train...but other than that really cool: Alum frame, fenders, lights, generator, chainguard, rack...and get this...all stainless steel fasteners and screws. Great for getting wet. Kinda like this one from bianchi italia's site (but add the S.STL fasterners) I think it was 400 Euros...wish I had bought it.

There was another really popular city bike brand "Legnano"...Not much info on the web though. That 'dale is cool, but it still strikes me more like a city bike made from a mountain bike....not a purpose built city bike geometry.

This topic came up in a thread a couple of months ago and I did some research at that time regarding pricing. Though I no longer remember the precise numbers when I checked prices of Cannondale models sold both in the U.S. and U.K, I found the U.K. price (when converted to U.S. dollars) to be 25%-35% higher. Add shipping to that (assuming that you can find a dealer that will) and you’re looking at an $1,100 bicycle costing $500 - $600 more than it would cost if Cannondale were to sell it here. That’s when I stopped looking.

I could have missed something, but I believe that currently Bonethrone’s cheapest internal hub Cannondale is the Street 700 at 799 Pounds. Using Yahoo’s currency converter, that converts to over $1,500 without shipping. I’ve also looked into having a vintage bike shipped from the U.K. and have generally been quoted prices in the $250 - $300 range (by individuals, not shops). IMO, that's a lot for an $1100 bicycle.

chicbicyclist is on the right track. We need to get Cannondale to sell them here.

Regards,
Alan

Looks like it has all the components for a nice commuter. It doesn't seem to have geometry or features that you couldn't easily put together with a mountain bike and some after-market goodies.

Still, it has mountain bike geometry which I do not think is optimal for distance riding. Single position handlebars = numb hands/fingers.
