After much deliberation, I decided to take a sick day today. 4th day of hacking cough and sputum production-wasn't about to ride. Thanks for the input.

I'm in the boat with the rest of the go to work sick bunch. I get 7 sick days. I have 2 small kids and I will burn those plus most of my vaca each year just covering those days the kids are sick or school is out. My last cold lasted 10 days, I would have burnt my sick days all in one chunk. No can do, off to work I go.

A caveat to my earlier post.
Too sick to ride, too sick to work.
Injured it depends. I have been known to ride many miles with a cast on one arm because of a broken wrist.
Last Wednesday I got my left thumb where it didn't belong in a hydraulic, log splitter. The pieces of thumb got sewn back together, most of them anyway, I think one got left in my glove. Went back to work the next day, but the thumb has been sore enough to keep me off the bike. I'll probably be back riding by the end of the week, maybe early next week.

I'm not often sick, but cycling is a great indicator of work-readiness.
One time I pushed myself out the door, but didn't make it 1/4 mile, I was doing okay when I could coast on a gentle downhill, but as soon as I had to turn a pedal over on level ground I knew I was whupped. I imagine my co-workers were glad I didn't show up.
At a slow time a couple of months ago I caught a cold. My co-workers encouraged me to take the whole week off. I did for 4 days. One day though, they shut off the water at my apartment to do repairs. So I hid in my cubicle.

Sniffles or stuffiness won't stop me.....When my cheap-*** boss took away sick days.
I'm a firm believer in not bringing germs to work. It's so thoughtless and businesses shouldn't tolerate it. They lose more income by encouraging sick people to come in than keeping the work force healthy.

Actually the only time I havent been commuting while sick is with any type of Sinus problems or pressure. When I ride, and the cold wind hits me early in the morning, after I stop, I feel like someone kicked me in the face with a steel toed boot. It's like a migraine shifted over to the face lol!

I finally had to stop riding my bike when I could not stop coughing at night. I could not sleep. I had to return to the doctor who told me that I had fluid on my lungs. I have been off the bike for about a week. The single digit temps helped also. Anyway I am much better and ready to get back on the bike. Oh yeah we are going to have a heat wave, 22 degrees this weekend.

I normally ride to school, but if I'm not feeling well, I'll have my mom drive me. I tend to get sick pretty easily, and I'm not exactly sure why. I never get sick during the summer, probably because there are more germs at school.

I'm just about done with a cold, just in time for the weekend. The guy who gave me the cold gave it to everyone else in my section, so there's not much point in staying home to keep others healthy. Also, I just started at this job and didn't know I had sick days available until this afternoon. D'oh! Oh well, it's the first time I've been sick in a couple of years, so I'll deal with it.

For you guys who hardly get any sick days, I feel for you all. Some of you might want to consider working for the Govmnt. I've know some people here with 1500+ hours of sick time
. Amazing. It can be used anytime or accumulated. So far I have 80+ and counting

I don't think I have any sick days either. I got really sick a week after using all my vacation time last year so I just went in. I tried to stay in my little cubicle as much as I could and washed/sanitized my hands frequently. Two or three days I was so sick I did the whole "work from home" thing. I was sick for nearly two weeks and there were a couple times I was too sick to even ride/walk to the train station so I had to drive. I had only been at the job for a month or two and I didn't really want to push my luck "working from home" too much.

I drove to work the past three days due to a cold. I rode Monday and Tuesday, but started feeling really bad Tuesday afternoon and had to hitch a ride home. I hate driving to work, but I'm more concerned about getting well enough to ride again. It does make me wonder how car free people do it when they're too sick to ride, but not too sick to work. Taxi maybe?
