I like the directions we used to give in small towns: "Well ya go down this road till you get to Joe Pudfracker's place, then over to the Exxon and turn left till you see Ed's pink flamingo. From there you take the road to the schlossen cut-off, cut off your schlossen, and wait for the ambulance to come and get ya where ya wanna go."

The last time someone asked me directions while I was riding I accidently sent him in the wrong direction. It was an honest mistake. You should have gone south two blocks, good sir!

I give bike compatible directions only. 
Go past the 7-eleven to the bike path. Head south past the red house and take your third left.
Did I forget that I do not use street names but landmarks? Plus, I prefer S,W,E,N over left and rights. Drives my mum nuts.

I got asked directions a few days ago. Unfortunately, she asked about a little gravel side road that's off a road I don't really ever travel on, I had heard of the road but couldn't remember where it was.
Last summer someone did ask for some directions to get around a road closed due to an accident. Asking a cyclist about which back roads to take to avoid the main road is definitely a good idea!

i've had the luxery of flashing my badge at a couple of them and telling them to pull over. We then have a brief discussion about what they think the law is/should be versus what it is. I point out that the entire code is not written in the driver training manual, that courtesy and respect play very important parts in our lives and ( in one instance) that they should return to the gumball machine where they got their license and get retested. Most usually motored away rapidly. i imagine that at least one or two had a few moments of unease, waiting for the ticket. Not as much fun since i retired, but some habits and attitudes die hard.
