Is it wrong to buy a bike just for its name?

Schwinn makes a bike named 'Sid/Nancy'. I want to buy it for the name! What a couple they were.

I want to buy a Trek Jetta for my winter bike. (Never mind that I really should get something with discs, or maybe drums, for that.)

Granted, not JUST because of it's name - also because I'm a VW fan, and it's something collectible related to VW...

There are worse reasons to choose a ride. You will be required to ditch the hubcaps though, as the ghost of Sid will come after you.

I think those are part of the Shimano Coasting system, dunno if it will operate without them or not...my LBS won't let me close enough to the one they have to play with it

Well, not to my taste, but go for it.

Just be aware that if Nancy gets a flat, Sid will follow a few weeks later.

So i'd say the answer is 'no', it's not wrong to buy it for it's name..test drive it first to see if you like it and if you do.. great buy it, you're the one who'll be using it..have fun, life is short!!

cheers!

What happened to good old wholesome Schwinn? When did it become fashionable to market coaster bicycles named after two dead dope addicts?

I prefer the set up, but I would have to immediate repaint the coffee bike.

Sid and Nancy - what a hoot! Maybe I'll get my wife on a bike after all ...

Rock Lobster cycles is named because the owner liked the B-52s. I own one because I like the B-52s.

I wanted so badly to take it in to the concert when I saw them earlier this year ...

How long before they come out with the Pollack and Warhol? What wild paint jobs those would have.

I can see the new Schwinn TV spots to the tune of 'My Way'.

Someone at Schwinn has a real sense of humor.

The Sinatra version to sell one version of the bikes, The Ramones version to sell a punkier version.

Or maybe the Sid Vicious version to sell the Sid/Nancy bikes?

Interesting side note(s) about the 2008 Schwinn line up...no Sturmey Archer hubs and prices are up about 20% on most of the bikes. I like the concept behind the Coffe/Cream set, but I don't see frame sizes listed.

Bikes: Three road bikes. Two track bikes.

I had no idea that Schwinn still made bikes like these. I might have to pick one of these up just to leave it at work for around town errands.

Sid/Nancy?? Now, I understand buying Fred and Wilma (only in a pair, of course), but Sid and Nancy? Come on...
