Hi,
I waited until I finished thirty strips to post this thread, to make sure I had enough ideas and energy to follow through... Rick Smith This is just what we need--go for it! Pete (10 minutes later, after reading more comix...) :roflmao: :D |
Well, today's clip makes it crystal clear. :thumb:

...I'm not sure we yet know when Fred died. Has he been a ghost the entire time, or did his "my ghost bike" comment from awhile back refer to someone else who had died? |
Never mind, I missed the "crash last year" comment by Yehuda today.

If you look at yesterday's and today's strips it appears that Fred isn't even on a bike. He seems to be just floating alongside Yehuda like the spectral apparation that he is!

My Vote is Fred has been dead the entire time.

Found this strip earlier this week ... now found this thread ...
Rick - Awesome strip. It is now a daily stop for me. Thank you. |
First Album of Comics Coming Soon
The first album of Yehuda Moon comic strips will be available around the second week of June. The book collects the comics from January 22, 2008 (the first strip) to June 30, 2008 (161 comics). The 8.5" x 8.5" perfect-bound softcover book will feature 64 full-color pages.
Here's the front cover: http://yehudamoon.com/images/adverti...ok_cover_1.gif And the back cover: http://yehudamoon.com/images/adverti...ok_cover_2.gif Still working out a final price, since this is a print-on-demand book, but it will probably be $20. The draft I had printed to check paper and color quality (which were both grand) arrived in about a week - maybe sooner. I was pleased with the turnaround and it was beautifully packed. The printer ships to Europe and the UK and a host of other countries worldwide. More details when the book's link is established. I figured out that if the the book was available on June 10th, and copies were on doorsteps on the 17th, that the last 13 strips in the book would appear before the online versions... |
It's a great strip, you're very talented, and I like to see a guy who respects some of the historical tradition of comic strips, (Dick Tracy, etc.) I'm loving Yehuda Moon. Also, in case you haven't noticed, with very few exceptions like Perry Bible Fellowship and a few others, online comics are generally heinous.

Excellent. I use to do the same thing on metal detecting forums except I usually did single panel.
Magazine don't buy and publish cartoons like they use to but I was wondering if you tried to sell your strip to any of the bicycle publications. By the way, thanks for sharing your talent on the forum. |
OK am I missing something?
Fred is talking to Joe!? I thought the invisible Freds and the dialogue about the accident made it certain that he was a ghost. But now todays strip has turned it upside down again! Rick-Please! we must know Please! Seems weird that both Yehuda and Joe can see him, yet he vanishes at times and is invisible. today he seems "real" again!?:mad::mad::notamused::D:lol: maybe Ricks stirring things up to go with the book launch? Sort of like the Bobby in the shower thing? |
Fred and Yehuda both talk to Fred. It seems almost like Yehuda and Joe bought the Kickstand to keep it going after Fred was killed? I mean really, they fight like two people with a common cause/ co-owners rather than 'old friends' who bought a bike shop together.
So Fred is dead. Joe and Yehuda were loyal customers? who saved the Kickstand together and they are seeing more of Fred since it is close to the anniversary of his dying...? Dunno but kinda cool to try and guess! Good comic! |

I also think it's a good sign when there are fierce debates over relative minutiae of the stuff you've drawn. Means you've already got a "loyal fan base." (The Fred thing is pretty cool.)

I hope we'll get more insight into how Yehuda and Joe came to this common idea, from such different cycling subcultures. And how they knew Fred before the crash. I think they must have, for it to have affected them so deeply, and to be on such familiar terms with his ghost. My intepretation is that Fred's solidity represents those times when Yehuda and Fred are recalling him most vividly or communicating with him directly. Still, it seems like he's not just their imagination, since he sometimes seems to surprise them with both his appearances and disappearances. And today's strip definitely has echoes of the old idea of ghosts as restless spirits roaming the earth after having met an untimely death, seeking some kind of resolution before they can finally move on in peace. :( |
Joe is ALWAYS in a blue jersey. maybe thats why he want the investigation to end.

"Van Sweringen" (Yehuda's bike) seems to be a Cleveland inside joke. The Van Sweringen brothers were Cleveland Real Estate and Railway tycoons, but early in their careers they ran a bike shop.

"Rapid Red Line" Is part of the mass transit system the Van's built in Cleveland too.

I feel SSSOOO much better after reading the last several posts. I thought I was an idiot and had missed the whole thing with Fred being a ghost. The last several strips with him shown in white had me confused. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Rick, great job and the whole series and that's actually good writing with how you did that. |
I gather from both of these together that Yehuda and Joe did indeed open the store as a response to the death (probably Fred's, it now seems) http://www.yehudamoon.com/images/strips/2008-02-26.gif |
