Chainlove.com offered a Light & Motion Solo headlight for around $60 the other day, it might pop up again.

Oh and, I need to get some Duracells!

Nite rider trail rat at 15 watts is a great light but I don't like the fussy battery. However it is very visible and lights the road pretty well for me.

Having good luck with a Cateye Single Shot. Bright enough for my suburban/urban use. Good flashing mode. Built-in batteries that I haven't run down yet (between charges, that is).

At that price point NOTHING can compete with a homebrew system.

Check out the Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets forum for further indoctrination... errrr..... information.

Here are some less expensive alternatives to Fenix flashlights. Some of them use the same LED's that Fenix use.

Make sure to check out the battery type and runtime on those before buying.

Thanks so much for the advice.
The Fenix looks very interesting, but I'm a little hesitant to mount a laser-weapon-looking thing on a bike that navigates the post-9/11 streets of New York.
How does it compare to the DiNotte 200L-AA-S? That's a bit out of my range, but people seem to love it, and the battery pack doesn't look too huge.
And slvoid, is that Niterider as small as it looks? That might just be the perfect solution, and a whole lot cheaper too....

Yes, I am joking.
(Referencing "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas":

All around me in traffic I could see people talking and I wanted to hear what they were saying. All of them. But the shotgun mike was in the trunk and I decided to leave it there. Las Vegas is not the kind of town where you want to drive down Main Street aiming a black bazooka-looking instrument at people.)

But the Fenix does look sort of large. The company offers a baffling range of flashlights, and I'm not sure why all the bike commuters have landed on the LD2. What's wrong with the P1D or the P2D? They seem noticeably shorter and offer the same "max 175 lumens." What's so special about the LD2?

The LD2 takes commonly available AA batteries (I use rechargeables) and has a long run time.

Not under $100, but $117 currently on Amazon: https://penncycle.com/product/niterid...ed-51120-1.htm I use these 6 days a week consistently and I do have to say their awesome. I'm sure there are some cheaper options for lights. These are 300 lumens, two lights, one battery. My commutes short(7ish miles round trip) so I typically charge the battery every other day. I like these except I think the mounting could be a bit better. They essentially give you a few O rings to mount them.

Thanks for the quick response. Ive been researching a little bit. I like the niterider ones as well as the cygolites. It'll probably be one of those. I found the 150 lumen cyglolite for $70 so im leaning towards that. Just wanted to get more opinions

I've heard good things about Cygolite. I've never used one though. But if I need a new light for my other bike, They would be my choice since their cheaper and seem to offer the same/better performance.

I just put a used magicshine mj816 and mj 818 tail light w/batt/charger/etc on ebay for $100 starting. I think that's the best you can do for the $100 mark.

PM for links.

I use a $2.50 jobby I got from autozone. It lasts about a month on 3 aaa batteries, depending on usage. Only last about a year though...Still. 9 led lights, but I'm limited to about 20 mph tops due to my single speed . So it lights up just fine. OH I strap it to my helmet with some velcro wire strap thingies.

oh yeah some trek like 8 or 9 light blinky for the rear, it came in a set with a 3 led headlight that pooped out after like 3 months. I only realize after becoming a member of bike forums that a $20 set front and back will not last nor light up very well.

Purchased from Costco.com last year. $100 for a set of 2 flashlights and 2 li-ion 18650 batteries.
Not available from Costco anymore, which is normal for that company. They sell a product this
month and when it's all gone, they may or may not stock it again. The P7 SSC led is pretty
common, you can find this in any number of websites. I've seen similar flashlights(LED and body),
in DealExtreme.com for lower prices than what I paid for mine. Hope this helped.

Thanks. I did a search earlier and found several. It does look really bright.
