The Guilt of not commuting by bike
Time and appointments conspired to make me drive to work this morning. Now, I am experiencing the guilt and general malaise of not having ridden in. Its almost as bad as not fueling my caffeine addiction.
I almost drove home at lunch so that I could ride bike back in, but decided that (today anway) that was silly (I have done that in the past).
Anyone else suffer the non-bike-commute blues (other than traffic road rage)?

Yes, particularly when there's no other reason but that you wake up too late for a bike ride to get you there on time. The downside of a 15+ mile one-way commute.

Yes.
Not once have I regretted riding my bike to work. I almost always regret driving though. My car has stayed at my office for the last month or so now though, so there's no choice about how I get here.

No. My alternative is quicker than biking, convenient, but a bit boring. It still does not involve driving and that makes the difference. AKA the light rail.
All I really care about is if I can ride just about every day. How I perform this riding matters little to me. Ex: commuting, run errands, recreational ride, etc.

you'll get over it.
Don't put yourself in that position. Only drive when it is the only possible option.
Excuses are like *******s. Everyones got one.

Glad I am not alone in both my failure to ride in today and to feel bad about it. Misery loves company.
Guilt, I am afraid, is not a quality confined to the Jewish, it is, in my experience readily available amongst my Norwegian/German Lutheran upbringing as well. But, luckily we have potluck to help us through.
I wish you all good riding tonight and tomorrow.

yep ... was just prescribed some medication and the DR said you need to say out o the sun light, which isnt to hard since i'm a cave dweller (aka tech support) , but i've just gotten into commuting and i'm riding during ,usually, the hottest and brightest part o the day since i work 2nd shift. Its only about a 50 minute commute about 9.5 miles with one long and torcherous hill and some head wind riding by a river.
Planning on double checking with the pharmasy to verify the restrictions .. but oh well there's always next week .. plus i can bring my bike to werk and ride on my break so's i dont feel like a complete slacker.

Cheri is gonna read this and kick my butt...but oh well.
About 2-3 nights a week in the summer she'll drive my truck up to my work with her bike on the back, then ride the 25 miles home with me. Well of course then I got to drive the truck back home at some point so she can once again bring it to work with her bike. It's not a bad thing, I use her trips in as an opportunity to rotate clothing, restock food, drink and other supplies at work...and it does give me a couple of semi-rest days so I can save a little energy for long weekend rides.

My main problem is my wife's fear of my 'death-by-motorist'. I rarely commute lately, because I don't want to listen to it. Instead of that, I have been riding the MTB trails, in the evenings, because it is difficult for cars to drive on them.

I'm addicted to commuting. It's my drug. Even if I'm dead tired from a long hard ride on Sunday, I always feel better if I ride in on Monday rather than driving in.

november 2007, just before thx-giving holiday, i did not feel guilty for not driving. i felt stupid and crazy..!
just finishing a full year of 100% bicycle commuting (+/- 3.5 miles each way), but then work moved 7.5 miles further = 11.0 miles each way.
during the prior 1 yr, i commuted 100%, an unique bike commuting experience. during that i was most humbled by fallen trees/ice on the 3.5 mile trip.
however...on return trip from relocation with snow/rain/flooding, i felt vulnerable to elements and motorists, spun through to come out with wet shoes and ability to post this!
i felt even more humbled by bicycling on that day; guilty of not driving on that day!

I'm changing offices later this month. My new office is 4 miles from my home and the roads are mostly back roads. I've got no excuse, I've got to start commuting.
