I ride a TT bike to work. Someone snapped a picture of me on my way in this morning:

I don't know if this is true or not but even if it is, it's a non sequitur. Why would you want to rest your legs more while commuting? And if you did wouldn't a cruiser or a touring bike be a better option? Unless you commute actually is a triathlon (maybe you live in north Jersey and you bike to the Hudson swim to manhattan and then run to the office) you don't need to rest your legs cause there is no run portion.

Doubt I'd like to be in that position for my 1.5 hour commute. Plus, where would I hook up my rack? No rack mounts on those things.

tri-bikes dont rest the legs; they transfer provide some relief to the quads by transferring to the hams.

A tri bike is mostly about aerodynamics though (read: Flat back) which isnt going to work well with a backpack/messbag.

A tri bike would probably be a good fit for my commute if it were equipped with a metal seatpost and seatpost rack. I want to try it out some day but current funds keep on the bike I have.

Thanks for the replies. A tri bike is not going to be in my future, though I would like to do some duatholons. I may pick up a crosscheck, and convert it when need be.

I ride a CrossCheck. I'd look for something a bit lighter but still commute-worthy if you're looking to race in the future. While it's a nice bike (I mine), the X-Check is a tank.

Tri bike for commuting?

All advice aside, I'd rent a tri bike for a day and see if you like it. If so,commute to work on anything that is comfortable to you. The contrarian in me says it might be cool to tool up to work in something other than a road bike.

I have a road bike (Trek Madone), a cyclocross bike (S-Works CruX), and a 10 pound wonder (Emonda SLR 10). I ride the Madone almost every day because of its ridiculous comfort, and then the CruX on rain days, and then the Emonda when I just want to haul ass and race to work. I have race light tires on the Madone and the Emonda.

Holy Cow a 10 pound bike! (Wasn't aware of that Trek line) My 'lightweight' titanium long wheelbase recumbent is more like 25 pounds.

Zombie Thread Alert!!
(Had been asleep for 8 years until today.)

You joined BF 9 years ago, and have 13 posts. Why bring this back up? To brag about your $25K+ worth of 3 bicycles? You're either filthy rich, or deep in debt, or trolling, or perhaps some combination of those.
