48 married male commute 12 miles a day unless snow and ice are on the roads
|
I'm 29 male and just started bike commuting in May. As long as I have the ability and my health I want to keep riding!
I believe it is very healthy to immerse yourself in the elements on a daily basis. Embrace the heat on your skin, the cramps in your legs, the rain on your face. The reward is greater than the challenge. It is not for everyone. But the ones who get it are lucky. |
55 next week, male, 38 mi round trip
|
37 female, wanna be year round commuter but since there are some hideously cold days in January and February I'm gonna try my best. My typical day involves 15 km - 20 km of riding. I do nearly all of my errands on my bike like pick up mail, shopping, buying groceries, meet friends. This is the first year I haven't bought a bus pass and I'm hoping it continues!

37 male
been commuting since June .. 20 mile rt .. thought its lookling like Sept will be my 1st month w/o driving my car to work at all .. hoping to ride through most of the winter. |
46 male. First year commuter. Planning on riding through the winter unless the roads are snow or ice covered. I may discover a minimum bearable temperature as well.
|
42 year old married male. This is my second year commuting. Last year I hung the bike up in mid November and didn't commute again until April. I am hoping to ride longer and not just sort of quit for the winter like I did last year. 14.5 mile RT.
But the cool news is that my wife is going to do her first ever bike commute this coming Monday! Wooo hooo for positive commuting influence. |
22, Male. Walk or Ride nearly everywhere (don't own a car, but do borrow the GF's on from time to time), but classes this year and last year are too far to walk (that is I don't feel walking it) Plan to ride in all conditions. The gnarly the better! (My commute is only a few miles) The harder it's snowing, the colder it is, the more excited I'll be to get out there! (Heat on the other hand can keep me from doing much of anything).

58. Currently 18 mi. round trip. Aim for a couple of days/week (except Winter). I avoid thunderstorms. Started in 1973. Spent 8 years in Atlanta biking to work pretty much every day.
|
34 y/o male been commuting off and on for 15 years. Have yet to do a straight year, but I'm off to a good start this year. I have been commuting via bike uninterrupted for 7 months.
|
51, male, single. Car-free since 1999, four-season cyclist since 2006.
|
42 male this year my truck has been broken since july every day since till the weather goes bad or whatever i will try, maybe not in the snow(to many stupid drivers) not the snow
|
49 year old male, 21 mile round trip. Started in late June, and have driven the truck to work 4 or 5 times since. Rain doesn't bug me, and am slowly learning to deal with the cold mornings. I haven't decided how to handle the snow yet. Have my old Puch ready to go when the weather really turns sour, but I don't have studded snows on it, or anything like that.

26 - Male - Married - I ride every day rain/snow/shine.
|
I'm 45, male, and ride my bike to work about 1/3 of the time. Factors that convince me not to include precipitation, wind, and having meetings at other sites. I don't want to show up for a business meeting all sweaty.
EDIT: Although after reading a lot of the threads on this forum I'm gonna try to commute more often with the goal of trying to go car-free, at least for part of the year. |
27, female, 6 miles round trip, 3 or 4 days a week, 12-hour shifts.
Started in March of this year, will ride through winter as long as there's not much snow on the ground. Edit: I am married with a toddler; my commute and errands are my only times to ride. |
50, Male. I have started commuting this year, three to five days a week, rain or shine. Of course here in Texas, it is mostly shine. Currently 30 mile round trip. The company I work for relocated their office five years ago...my commute used to be 20 miles each way.I did not commute as often back then.
|
52, male, long term average around 3.5 days per week, between 3 and 15 miles depending on job and house location.
Started commuting by bike at 14 when I started at Purdue University, was still too young to drive. It was 7 miles; it was that or walk. Just kept it up. I since coached soccer and softball, took all the equipment on the bike, etc. I ride down to 0F, including rain and light snow, but no heavy snow or ice. (Basically if the cars can't keep control on the road I don't ride). /F |
52, male. 20 mi round-trip 3 to 5 days a week.
Starting 4-season commuting last year. In Seattle, that means riding in the dark, and learning to love to ride in rain. I won't commute if it's absolutely pouring down *hard* in the morning (which rarely happens here), but frequently get caught in some fairly nasty rain anyway. I won't commute on ice (only a few days a eyar). |
41/male.
Have been commuting on and off since age 22, in earnest during the last 2 years. Living in Austin, TX the challenge is not so much cold weather but heat. We had a very hot summer this year and I still rode every day. So far so good. |
45, male, 44 miles round trip. Commute if chance of rain is below 40% that day. That usually makes about 15-17 days a month
|
35, male, spousal unit, no children, two cats. Have commuted by bike to work/school about 2/3 of my time since high school. My commute now is nice and short ~3 miles. Do a lot of errands and grocery getting by bike as well.
All negated by me being willing to drive a fair bit for mtb purposes. Oops. |
35 male. 44 mi round trip, but only 3 days/wk. I am playing it by ear as far as bike commuting this winter in MN. Maybe some studded tires will let me do it once in a while.
|
52. starting commuting 3 days a week in May of this year. 23 miles RT. Do not plan on riding in snow or real cold weather. :thumb::thumb:.
|
I'll just say I'm the third oldest to respond so far. :o
Anyway, I commute year round, snow storms and all and love it. I like the process of learning to be prepared to do it right so you are comfortable and in control. One advantage over the younger years is better cash flow to afford all the stuff! |
