Of all the reasons, that's what bugs you the most? Really?

20mph+ commuter is the one thing I take no issue with. If I can get my Sasquatch bulk moving at a steady 18mph on a heavy steel bike, I've got no reason to doubt that a couple more mph is possible by someone lighter on a lighter, better equipped bike.

"20 plus" is my average speed during my 5 mile commute on my road bike. I use other slower bikes too.

In the vid here I was probably approaching 18 mph when I had to start braking for the truck. For me 18 mph starts to "feel" fast on narrow streets. I was not pushing, just loafing along. Those last 4 blocks, starting with the cross street in the video, are always mayhem. My best guess would be 16-17 mph here.

Why? Jealous?
20 mph = 32.18688 kph ... on my SS that's a cruising speed, not even passing urban core cars yet. Joey runs gears too which would make it even easier to hit that speed.

It's always pepsi, coke, water, milk.

You never see anyone admit to anything interesting (absinthe, kava, infant formula, egg nog, everclear, $5 milkshake, white wine spritzer, sleepy time herbal tea with honey, vegetable broth)....

Now, perhaps you should have avoided him more safely. But there can't be much doubt about who has the right-of-way.

Out of curiosity--do you have an electronic or air horn? Seems like it might be a worthy investment, even if it diminishes your coolness.

The old "I need a new keyboard because I just spit XX out of my nose!" is kinda tired. And almost never true, I'm sure.

It is indicative of the obesity epidemic. The only thing that comes out of my nose is boogers, and usually when I am cold-commuting.

I didn't say you were going to go in front of him but the motorist doesn't know if you are stupid enough to ride in front of his car or not. Some people are, some aren't. He also may not have known how far he had cleared the intersection since he was watching you. If he had only poked his nose out in front of you would you still go all the way around to his tailgate? Probably not.

Death is behind every steering wheel because you refuse to ride by the rules of the road. Your warrior mentality does nothing but confirm the idea that bicyclists have no place on the road in most motorists eyes. Yes, you are selfish. And childish.

Thanks Joey.

Interesting as always. And the ridiculousness that ensues on these forums after you post a vid cracks me up. I get confused when other cyclists insist on following the rules of the road, which were made without our safety in mind. Instead they are rules created for a car created by people who never ride bikes and see them as more of a nuisance than anything.

They are rules for users of the road. I don't get the "our safety" bit. If everyone obeyed the rules we would be ok.

No, the person who makes his judgement of a whole group (or race) of people based on a small sample size of those he has encountered is stupid (and prejudiced).

That's a mighty big "if". So big, that it becomes a tautology (because accidents would, in effect be against the rules).

^^correct^^ but how often do all the cars you encounter on a commute always obey all the rules of the road? Being the top O' the transportational food chain as it were, the cars set the tone for everyone else in the system. On my commute I'd have to say I've never seen it. The streets are awash in bad lane changes, no turn signals, bad merges, full on aggressive driving, lane straddling, distractions, etc. But what might be a fender bender between cars can have catastrophic results to someone on a bike. That in mind that gives me reason to ride how I do.

EVERYONE will never EVER obey all the rules. That's a ridiculous notion approaching Nirvana.

It's an if. Like I have said before: up until I watched your vids and reasoning I obeyed them. Now I ride pretty much like you, and am able to disobey nearly every stop sign b/c I do my riding at night.

Well, then he'd be wrong to do so. Do you seriously think Joey has some sort of responsibility to keep wacko truck drivers from "taking it out" on a random person who vaguely resemble Joey because of their form of transportation, eventhough said random person did nothing to the truck driver?

Your warrior mentality does nothing but confirm the idea that bicyclists have no place on the road in most motorists eyes. Yes, you are selfish. And childish.
I figure it's childish to believe that the actions of one lead to a judgement of all (see my post above). It's also childish and selfish to expect others to conform to your own view of how to protect themselves. Adults allow others the right to behave as they choose (unless said behavior causes actual physical harm to us) and don't need to resort to name calling when opinions and practices vary.
