I knew it was something nerdy that I'd seen on Make or Hack-A-Day. I actually knew it wasn't the "official/original" SpokePOV kit but couldn't pull it up in my memory banks. Still recovering from a brutal weekend.

Looks good! It may not be much, but she's my commuter...and my only bike, for now. :D I just put some Continental Travel Contact tires and some Deore CR-18 wheels on it...hopefully a speedier smoother ride...and they DO make it look so much prettier if you ask me. |

So my single commuter bike has now morphed into two. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...k/univega6.jpg A 1986 Univega Arrow Pace equiped with a bell, fenders, brooks b-17 and all the usual commuter stuff. Original Biopace crank, 7 speed shimano drivetrain and araya 27 inch wheels. Just added rack and fenders to my bike, and added rack, basket and grocery bags to my wife's bike. I've been commuting by bike as much as weather allows and my wife has been using her bike to run errands. These additions will make those tasks much easier!

just started commuting a few days ago. have had my scott s10 road bike for quite a while and seriously thought about getting a mtb for commuting, but there isn't enough room in my apartment for another bike.
so for now this is how i roll to work and school.... scott speedster s10, ultegra 10 speed, shimano compact crank, speedplay petals, mavic open pro wheels (also have neuvation wheels but its just too damn hard to get tire seated onto rim for flat repair so im probably gonna get rid of them), garmin 305, 2x superflash on rear, and dinotte 200l li on the front. probably not the most practical bike to commute on, but sure is fun. need to take a better pic though |
Nice ride there Gaber X. It looks like a good commuting setup, and I'd advise against getting an mtb for commuting. Unless you regularly need to go down stairs and jump curbs, that is. Otherwise you'll miss the Scott's gearing.
However, if you did want a designated commuter bike, something of lesser value than the road bike, I'd say something like a flat-bar road bike... a Trek 7.5/ Scott P4 type bike would be nice. You'd get the speed of a road bike but have room for larger tires, fenders, and it would be less expensive. PS: about having room for another bike... get one of those vertical bike stands and you'd have room for two. They stack 2 bikes in the footprint of one. |

nice shots, I ride an MTB because that is the only bike I have as well. It works for most terrain but I am in agreement, that it would be better to get a variation of a road bike or a comfort bike for that matter.

thanks, i will have to look into that bike stand.
i was thinking a mtb because it would be a lot cheaper and would be far less noticeable at school that my scott, seems most people ride mtb's to school. i like riding my bike to work as the bike area is right next to the security station, but at school there arent too many road nice bikes, and i get a little nervous locking it up. |
Well that P4 is my pick, and I saw a sweet one on here with chopped bars... looked great.
Plus they have 700c tires so you can run any road tire on them. And get that stand... I'm gonna make or buy one for my dorm in a year or so. |

It's a '92 Bridgestone XO-2. I bought it from a local BF member who had taken very good care of it. He had it set up for touring for his wife. I put the moustache bars back on, replaced the saddle with this Brooks, replaced the clipless pedals with platforms and Powergrips and put the baskets on. I chose the baskets because they were a steal on CL. I love how much I can shove in them but I am thinking I'd like something I can take on and off easier. For the commute I have a bag with clothes and such, my briefcase with laptop, and a kids bag for daycare. Here's my humble commuter / urban getaway vehicle. 2005 Specialized Rockhopper Comp with Hayes discs and Michelin City street tires. No money for racks or lights yet, but at least I'm riding....
