A good friend of mine has that same bike (2008 right?). I rode it after he bought it but wasn't sure about the suspension on the road. Does it help or hurt your commute?

umm it does and it doesnt like when im gettin on it i can tell energy is getting wasted due to the suspension absorbing my pump.. but i like it cuz my commutes pretty long and the road isnt always smooth. but i love the bike to death, very comfortable. and yes its a 2008.

I've done a lot of searching online and it appears a Milano 7-speed in white is kind of a rarity. The only other model I've seen with the same paint scheme is the Milano Parco, which is a 3-speed:

Based on the serial number the LBS thinks it's a 2000 model. It has a shop sticker from someplace in the Bay Area, so it spent part of its life in California before coming up to Oregon. A shame somebody took out the stock crankset and fenders. Picked it up off Craigslist instead of a new 120th Anniversary edition in silver.

Noice! I had that setup initially but have added a shorter stem and straight bars cut down to 40 cm. Straight bars look sick with the straight fork on the Paddy 07, FYI in case you wanted to try something new.

Thanks! Straight bars might be an option. I just didn't want to get bullhorns because then I'd be another faux messenger. I really love it for city riding. i have pretty low gear ratio (42-16) so uphills aren't issues for me.

I'm Ron and I stumbled into this forum looking for commuter bikes similar to my tastes.

I had an old Trek sitting in the basement collecting dust and figured it was time to convert it into a work horse. With limited tools and and less knowledge, I think it came out pretty good. New parts included: upright bars, BMX break levers and compatible cables, converted to on the bar shifting from down tube, 700 x 28 Michelin city tires, a Zoom stem conversion (it looks alright to me) down graded from Look pedals to clips (better for work boots), a left-over Cycle Ops saddle from a spin cycle (soft to the toch but hard on the butt - a Brooks may be in the future), Thorn resistant tubes never made it to the road as they were heavier than the frigg'n tires! and googone to get rid of the dust.

Total investment less than $300. It would have been cheaper without the tube replacement and taking kids along to the bike store (2 disco bells @ $13 ea.)

First trip on the road went well right after the picture taking session.

Nice bike Ron. Is it a 1220? I like how you've flat barred it. I picked up one for $200 and ended up turning it into an Ultegra spec'd roadie :)

Looks nicer with a flat bar setup though!

My 08 Kona blast is ready to grocery get now that I purchased a Topeak explorer rack and Detours toocan grocery panniers. I was able pack a lot of grub in these bags and the ride felt awesome. I do hit the bags with the back of feet once in a while.

Yep it's a 1220. I bought while on vacation back in '90 or '91.

Over the years my riding format has been reduced to indoor spinning and commuting to work / errands.

Since gas first went to $3 (Katrina), I've made the shift in life to bike whenever possible.

The only item that may need some tweaking beyond my skill set is the front derailieur (or however you spell it) The indexing doesn't give the full range depending on which rear cop is used. All in all, it rides nice.

1989 specialized hardrock with 2.1's

sprayed it flat black and made a red punisher-like skull design by making my own stencil. one on the front and one on the rear fender.

good for mud/puddle mashing, but i have a 2008 Raleigh "Special" on the way. It'll be way more comfortable around campus and a little more dignified for dates etc. (since i'll be without a car for the next couple of years). its a singlespeed too, so no gears to mess with.

Black Gold- That Raleigh looks like a mean machine! My first bike as a kid was a Raleigh, so they have a special place in my heart.

I'm also going to be carless for some time and finding a ride for going on dates is something I'm in the process of working out myself. Let me know how it goes for you. It's either going to makes things harder or much easier, after all if some chick isn't cool with it then she's right out. It reminds me of that scene in the 40 Year Old Virgin. "I hope your car has a big trunk cuz I'm going to put my bike in it".... wait for the euphemism, but there is none. ;)

most chicks here don't have cars anyway since Im in college and all... i just ment you dont have to get all hunched over, you can just kick back and be more relaxed... but yeah, car-less for about two years, then I'm buying and old mercedes 300e. for now though, just saving up, working, and goin to school.

It came stock with the bike. I looked it over today and couldn't find a brand name. The back has holes where the generator-powered rear light goes. You can adjust the height, but I haven't done that.

At least once in your life you should get a commuter bike that comes stock with essential accessories. It is great. No clanging fenders, everything fits/looks right...

I've been working this into my commuting rotation...it makes the 30 mile RT at least once a week: My 1965 Phillips 3-speed. When it's not busy being used as a commuter, it keeps my other bicycles company and anxiously awaits a grocery store trip.
