BarracksSi,

I have the 2005 version of this which I have heavily modified. Are those Freddy Fenders? I didn't think these would work around the disc brakes. Did you have to use stand-offs or anything fancy? Great choice, by the way. All you need now is a frame pump and a rack

And when it's wet:

I think they're Freddy Fenders; the previous owner put them on. He didn't use any standoffs, just bent the wire stays a bit so that they'd curve around the brake calipers. They're pretty secure, and they don't rattle or anything like I remember of fenders of years ago.

I've been thinking about a rack, but I don't exactly go far enough or carry large enough loads to need one. I'd like to put on some dynamo lighting, though -- I think that'd be pretty cool and utilitarian.

Bikes: Trek 7000

While my bike is not as nice as most people's, it is my first step up from the first one I had ($49 Walmart bike). I bought this one new at my LBS (Trek 7000) and am very surprised at how much nicer it is over my previous. I also believe that all bikes must have a name, so this one was given the name Iggy (by either my wife or kids,...can't remember).

I figure a before and after would be good...

This is my old commuter (approx 14 years old... everything stock).

Yes, the seat post is "bent"...I'm too tall for the bike so I had to pull the post too far out.

This is my new commuter setup, Felt X:City bike and Chrome Metropolis Messenger bag.

Lucky Lenny, is that the SRAM iMotion 9? Or is it a Shimano? How do you like it?

I have the iMotion 9 on my Swobo Dixon.

It is the Shimano 8 Speed Nexus. I really enjoy it...smooth as silk and silent. I love being able to shift at stops. The upper range seems to be a little low for me though. I think I may have problems spinning at high speeds, 30+mph (I have already hit 27 on flat ground and felt like I was spinning fairly fast in 8th gear). Then again, I am not usually traveling quite that fast, so it should be fine.

I get the same issue on my Swobo, which I think has the same crank. Some have suggested getting a bigger crank in the front to compensate.

*Edit, after returning home from work (yes I didn't ride tonight), I realized that the forks are not carbon fiber. Sorry for the confusion.

My '08 Crosscheck is coming Monday. Same size and color. I can hardly sleep. It will be the nicest bike I have ever owned. Someday it will get scratched and I'll cry, but Monday I'll be the kid on Christmas morning.

januarytwenty- the white saddle and grips, the chrome... you really have an eye. Another lovely old bike getting the love it deserves.

The bag is the MTX Trunkbag DXP 20.2 l Capacity. Great bag..... as someone just asked me about fitting 2 2 liter bottles of Coke or whatever in it on each side, it can do it with room to spare.

Your picture is a godsend, now I can see how big the bag really is relative to the bike. I was debating hard whether to go with the DXP or EXP. I don't want to mess with bungee cords or Velcro anymore. Anyway we could get a picture of it from the rear?

That's either a tiny bike, or the biggest car I've ever seen.

Bikes: Cannondale T700s and a few others

Did a few changes on mine. Here is a current shot.

Got a set of Freddy fenders over the weekend. No dirty nipples today.

That was a nice change. Very happy with them so far. My bike is a bit of an oddity and it took a little creativity to get them to work. Took it for a quick 25 mile run and it is very rare I hear any noise out of them. The front being the worst. It is so tight to the tire I had to take a heat gun and dimple them at the fork.

If the tire picks up a decent size pebble it rattles through the fender and shoot out the front with some impressive velocity.

The raised bars helped my CT pain a lot but I am starting to think a taller stem and Drops or aero bars might be worth a try. As my riding strength increases I find the wind is now my worst enemy. I might even get extra tacky and do a Sheldon double bar as I really like the current position when just putting around. Its when I am trying to make time I am not happy with things. Maybe my P8 bars will fit for a little R&D.

My other issue is saddle. I think a B17 is in the future. Get my wife or mom to get it for my for my Birthday in Oct.
