Heh. An office turned into a bike shop.

That bike stand is the exact model I have. I don't think they make one exactly like that any more. I'm thinking of getting sandbags or something to make it more stable. Any luck with that?

Sixty Fiver, that forcibly reminds me of how my LBS looked 2 years ago, when i had just started working for them and they were only a year or so old.

Is that home or work? either way (and without getting too sappy), it looks wonderful.

It is pretty wonderful... I have all the tools I need (that desk serves as a work bench and storage) and what you can't see is the wall o' bikes, the pre-requisite beer fridge and coffee station, and the parts room out back.

Their is also abundant office space (I was standing in it to take the last picture).

It has been a busy week so the place is a bit of a mess.

I would bolt it to the floor... :)

I am planning on building a hoist to bring bikes up from the floor to working height (another diy project) as I sometimes have trouble lifting them or holding them when I am clamping them in place.

The desk works well as a wheel building station... the drawers are full of tools and parts.

Great bike! Is it a True Temper OX Platinum frame? I have the Lemond Sarthe the OX frame is a great frame.

This is my new commuter, a 2009 Surly LHT. Been riding it about two weeks. Just installed fenders and rack. Decked out for commuting, though I still need to upgrade front light, maybe put on a mirror and get some pedals I can also use with work shoes when needed. Will upgrade rack when I'm ready for loaded touring. This replaces the Nishiki International I bought in 1984. The ride is quite an improvement, to say the least.

Where did you get that chain guard? I have been looking for one like that.

Here's my Vivian outfitted for the damp fall commutes. I normally use wald folding baskets but put these panniers on when it's wet out. I just put them over the baskets (folded). Yep, it's heavy, but I only commute about 2 1/2 miles each way so the heavier my load, the less I have to work out after I get home. ;)

I also use these for grocery runs since they're massive!

Nice ride. that bike is exactly what I am looking for. flat bars, steel frame, no front derailer. it has a classic/clean look to it. Nobody sells bikes like this new it seems and i dont understand why. you can get a single speed but you cant get one with gears in back.

Ciclo Urbano has bikes tends to have bikes like these. Since you have "chicago" in your name, then I assume your are from here. You can check out the shop at http://ciclourbanochicago.com/

It's styled after a post-war heavy weight cruiser! I absolutely love that frame.

so here's the current status after coming home from work today.
The road bike I have just wasn't made for it, so I've road-ified my Hardrock.

Changes: Race-lite front wheel, Mavic rear rim I just laced to an LX hub with a road 12-23 8 speed. Lights, rack, road pedals, flatbar with barends, 26x1.25 slicks
Starting to keep an eye out for a lighter front fork with lockout.

A simple wheel swap and rack removal gets me to dirt trails for weekend MTB fun.

nice, i have seen a lot of guys around here doing the road gearing. Does it make that big of a difference?

thenomad 10-29-09 07:25 AM

I had the small 12 tooth before but the gearing jumps were 2 to three tooth jumps, now I have one tooth jumps in my main riding range, much nicer to snip along in the "right gear" all the time. I'd like to get a larger big ring in the front as on the road I'm always on it. In the dirt I'll be in the middle/small anyhow so I think that'd give me the best for both worlds.

Plus I had it laying around after changing the road bikes to 9 speed.

noglider 10-29-09 11:39 AM

I think the change from knobbies to slick tires is the best improvement you can do to roadify a bike. I've done it for novice riders, and even they rave with appreciation!
