I will have to take some pics tomorrow... this was taken before we got hammered with snow.

The roads were pretty much impassable for the past two days.

BTW - This thread is one of my all time favourites along with Foo's "Post Your Rigs"... there are few places one can see such a diverse collection of bikes and one cannot help but appreciate the thought that goes into building up these bikes.

If I complimented every one I'd have as many posts in this thread as there are pictures.

noglider 12-07-09 12:02 AM

Yeah, me too.

Now please tell us what "hammered with snow" means in Edmonton. I see you had a good bit on the ground already when you took that picture. We got a light dusting last night, the first snowfall of the year, if you can even call it that. Some of it is still on some cars and lawns, but it will all be gone soon.

That picture was only a little dusting of snow... I have ridden up this hill on many occasions (in good weather) and the other day people actually thought they could drive up it... the grade tops out at something like 18 %.

Traffic came to a standstill, the highways were closed, fligths were cancelled, and most notable was the fact Sixty wasn't out there riding his bike... save to go to his shop which is only a mile away... and that took half an hour as it was more of a hike than a bike.

It doesn't look like a lot. I guess it got slick quickly.

You guys really get those arctic blasts! We (Portland) are complaining when we have a week thats below freezing. We're such wimps.

Sure, it's cold, but it's a dry cold. Personally, I'm not complaining.

Sixty Fiver 12-07-09 11:12 AM

Ours is also a very dry cold which makes the low temps much more bearable... unless the wind picks up.

And we also get a great deal of sunshine as we're one of Canada's sunniest cities.

It was pretty crisp this morning when I walked the girls to the bus... my youngest has no tolerance for cold while my oldest daughter did not even feel the need to cover her face... and it was -20 C.

I have only been in MT for a little and I am still waiting for it too cold. Today it was -19F with a little snow.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't live any place else, I love it here. But my furnace died on the weekend.

Sixty Fiver 12-07-09 07:02 PM

I need a skidoo...

Here you are......

It's not much to look at, but it's carried me faithfully for quite some time and it's comfy to boot.

Cheap enough not to shed many tears if it is stolen (also way to large, though some how feels right), but it is still a fun ride.

Next changes are going to be multi position bar's and the shortest stem I can find.

Not long after posting my Mongoose, I lucked out and caught my landlord throwing out a Trek 820 in my size. After swapping all the parts and making a few changes (Avocet M30, LX hubs laced to Mavic rims, Velo Orange Anti-Theft skewers, Velo Orange squeal free brake pads, and On-One Midges bars), this is how she sits:

I am somewhat contemplating going to 1X8or9 with a larger chainring, swapping to some more inelegantly designed fenders, and I would love to put together an inexpensive front dynohub wheel, but this configuration has been great the last few months.

Throwing out old steel Treks should be a punishable offense. That bike is thoroughly awesome.

I've gotta agree with you. Worst yet is that besides having tires that had obviously been left flat for years, and plenty of dust and spider webs, the bike was in practically new condition and perfectly usable with only a light dusting and some air in the tires. Even low end steel Treks such as this are good useful bikes. It was the property of a long ago evicted tenant, and amazingly much of the usable stuff left behind just gets tossed in the dumpster.

Thanks, this setup has been working out awesomely, and even being a very low end frame I can't really find anything to complain about, other than wishing that it had braze-ons for a lowrider front rack (and I guess I wouldn't mind if it were instead a lugged US made 900 series).

My 2in1 Fuji Royale (1980). I need to find a second frame, so I don't have to rebuild my bike all the time. I dont even know which one I like better ss or fg. Right now I have to complete my ss build: it needs front or rear rack and a saddlebag.

If you find another one, I will PM you my address and a sum of money. :) I am sure an old 820 frame is better than the Nashbar I am riding around now.

Ha, will do. That Nashbar looks mighty nice, and is probably an entire bike lighter too.
