My newest commuter! 2008 Bianchi Pista! set up with a flipflop hub (but set fixed.) I added a brake for many reasons but the #1 reason is for when I attach my sons attached bike to it (safety check:thumb:.)
This will be a great fitness commuter for me! |

I was riding on this. DK Xenia. single speed....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Picture274.jpg but just bought this at a yard sale for $5. Its painted, no idea what kind of bike, had finders...gave it a little tune up and BAM! VERY PLEASED :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Picture272.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Picture273.jpg |
This started with a Trek Multitrack 700 frame last year, then a gross of ebay auctions, and new paint. I've got about $570 in as it is, with LX-level components. A lovely ride with or without a load. I was planning on upgrading the frame someday, but now that I've been riding it awhile, I don't see the point.

2009 Jamis Commuter 3

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D0r4CfJhngM/Sr...bike%20001.JPG My new commuter: 2009 Jamis Commuter 3 - 16.5" in Cabernet Red. It was the last one that the warehouse had in New Jersey, they are rolling out their 2010 models which I *don't* care for, so it was extra special to pick this one up knowing that it almost got away. I did about six months of research before buying. I bought the bike and the rack at my LBS in Tucson (Ordinary Bike Shop) and a grocery bag pannier from Performance Bike. I'm looking forward to purchasing the accessories, I've scaled the front headlight down to two: NightRider 400 Dual or Dinotte 400L. I've put my BMW 325i up for sale so I can become a full-time bike commuter... http://lh6.ggpht.com/_D0r4CfJhngM/Sq...ont%20Left.JPG I'm looking forward to spending more time in the BF community. Good to Know You, Sarah A. Tucson, AZ |
I tell my daughters that our natural enemy on the road is the BMW...

Here's some pics of my recently "dropped" Hybrid:
Love the Armadillos. 500 miles strong and no flats:The bar end shifters are great and easy to use. Don't know why so many people seem to shy away from them: |

I like them. I have them on 2 of my bikes. Here's one of them. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e/DSC00924.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e/DSC00922.jpg |

Bar end shifters are enjoying a renaissance of sorts... for non racers they are an ideal system that is simpler, more robust, and far less expensive than brifters.

Picked up a Swobo Dixon in June. Several months and a 1,000 miles later I am very happy. I look forward to seeing how she does this winter in the snow with studs on.

This Aurora has been my main commuter for the past two years. Love it!

Diamondback Response II
It's not sexy, but I did just get it roadworthy again, after sitting in the garage for many years. Not your typical commuter bike, but it's all I've got to work with at the moment. The bike is pretty much stock, except for some small accessory additions. I did change out the stock off-road tires for a set of Kenda K-Rads, which have greatly increased the ease of on-road pedaling. Fenders, a chain disk, and a better bike rack will come soon.
At least I don't have to worry about somebody stealing it.    PS - My god. After viewing this post, I'm amazed at how funky looking the frame is. It looks like some sort of two-wheeled pogo stick. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...e/dsc05415.png http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...e/dsc05420.png |
If it works, it works. Looks like it will work well for that matter.

If it makes you feel better, I'd steal it!! |
Hehehehe.... Thanks guys. The funky frame is growing on me, the more I ride it.
I am seriously considering a rigid fork. I'll have to see how the finances work out. The K-Rad tires are definitely here to stay for the time being. I don't think that slicks would work out. Lots of weather here, from rain to snow to slush to everything else you can imagine. and the roads are pretty rough. Actually, the roads are wickedly rough. Many off-road trails feel smooth in comparison. h |

Commuting Berlin style- it is nice and flat so the racer is no problem. I do 17 K each way through the Grunewald forest and can normally get the big ring spinning, however I think the Bianchi will really suck when it finally starts getting wet...

Don't you just love riding between the trees? It takes most wind away and makes your commute easier :) You might want to look into Continental Grand Prix 4-Season tires, they have slightly more profile on them and should be suitable for worse conditions. |
You are right- it is a huge stem, I did not really notice it when I bought it (nearly ten years ago!) but my position seems comfy so maybe I just have long arms...

A pic from last Friday. After work I rode across town to the college my son is attending; they had a meeting for a parents association they're trying to start. I didn't really have time to go home and get the car, so I just road the 11 miles across town and met the wife there. I sagged home with my bike in her trunk, mostly because I wouldn't want to ride through the 'hood around the school after dark.
