Not the most practical commuter (only takes 23's) but I love zipping around the city on this thing.
These were assembled in Canada with Ishiwata tubing. I've heard some bad things about Biopace, but it suits me just fine..

ive come to enjoy biopace it doesnt seem to tense up your thigh muscles as much and make it easier to walk around when you get to where your going

Sixty Fiver 04-18-10 02:28 AM

I love springtime because I can commute on this... :D

Fioris are nice bikes and there is nothing wrong with Biopace chain rings... the folks who criticize them don't understand the physics of what makes them work as they do and non round chain wheels are making a comeback.

I love my Biopace chainring. I built my Surly around it!

Just wanted to show you guys my new ride, I know it doesn't compare to what some of you have, but since my daily commute is only around 4 miles, I figure this would do the job?!

Living in Japan does present a few problems...one of them is finding the right size bike:(
Sure you have imports, but they tend to cost an arm and a leg!

I went to my LBS, rode on a few and this was the most comfortable for me and for around 330us$ I couldn't pass it up...and yes it is made in China:lol:

Anyway here are the pics...

noglider 04-19-10 10:58 PM

I'm not sneering, vikiing. That's a perfect commuter bike. The only funny thing is that the name is the French plural word for horses!

Really nice bike, I like that

Here's my "new" commuter... it's not fast, but it's fairly comfortable. It gets me where I'm going and transports my stuff as I see fit. To those who say a front load effects handling, I'll agreed, but I only notice it when I have to do quick turns at low speed, like a switchback, or around a traffic control device. I'm still faster on my Aurora, but I've grown a bit nervous about parking that bike on campus, this bike works.
It's a mid 90s Specialized Hardrock that I've upgraded significantly... Cheapo Gotham tires, On One Mary Handlebar, new front brake and brake lever, Cardiff Saddle, Peltscher rack on the front with a wald basket ziptied on, MKS pedals with Power Grips. I'm digging the Sackville saddlebag. So here's my poor man's Rivendell...

Scoatw.. I love your set-up. It's like a swiss army bike.. Makes me think my bike (shown on previous page) looks a little too boring .

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=147359Here is mine. Trek Multitrack. It was a hybrid with riser bars and stem, box wheels and v-brakes.

New/different parts include:

old sora shifters 8sp
new tektro cyclocross brakes
Alex rims DA 22 with Armadillos
rack and PB fenders
Nashbar SPD platforms
Saddle Vader (Selle italia SLR replica)
Acera rear derailleur

Pretty much the only think stock is the frame fork and crank. It gets me to where I need to go.

Just got a new Brooks B17 Standard, and thought a pic might be in order. This is a Giant Lava, and I dont think you can get them outside of China.

Cost me about 1000RMB (about USD$150.)

Alright, I thought I would lower the standards here a little bit. I converted this from my dad's mountain bike that he got from Sears's in the 90s. As a college student I don't have the cash to make it perfect, but it works for the 5 mile ride to work, mile ride to class and a good workout along the Mississippi. I am looking for fenders and any suggestions so please don't hold back.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=147731

chaadster 04-24-10 08:17 PM

Just fitted some Velocity Blunt rims, in purple, laced to Shimano XT hubs to my Novara Buzz commuter. They're pretty damn wide rims; the Vittoria Randonneurs seem to just fit at 700x32. I guess they're built for MTB riding, as they were advertised as 29ers, and designed to carry 2.2" tires. They ride a bit stiffer than the WTB Dual Duty rims I replaced, and the purple is a little too wild with the yellow fenders, but I'll swap those out for black Planet Bike Hardcores and I should be back in business. Anyway, they add a nice bit of pizzaz, I think.

jimcross 04-24-10 09:39 PM

Pardon the likely stupid question, but is that a sidecar? I've never seen one for a bicycle before.

chaadster 04-25-10 01:58 AM

Yes, a sidecar by Chariot, with a very clever, bottom bracket mount that allows the bike to lean as normal. I love it!

Yeah, Nashbar or Performance, one of the two. Not much of a trailer, however, and really only good for grocery getting and carrying stuff to the park...jobs like that. Load rating is quite low, and of course, the single trailing wheel isn't much good at handling lopsided weighting.

JeremyZ 04-26-10 07:54 PM

Here's what I commuted on today and will commute on tomorrow. Wednesday, it might be the new bike!

Dahon Curve D3. 16" wheels, 3-speed Sturmey Archer hub, aluminum frame. This would be better in flatter areas and smoother streets. The first gear is not low enough for hill climbing. 3rd takes me as fast as I'd want to go with these tiny wheels.
