Have been seeing a fellow here in the mornings who commutes on an Extracycle and provides taxi service to his son who looks to be about 5 or 6... my 10 year old daughter (a wee little thing) also likes getting taxi rides on my Extra-bike

My road commuter. An early 90's Lotus Legend partnered with a Tange fork. Shimano 600 derailleurs, 105 cranks, yadda yadda yadda! I want to find a control tech stem to match... or a Salsa, or 3T Pro Chrome. I need wider bars at the moment as well. No need for fenders here in Phoenix.

It works!

Worked over the UAV tonight... she had a hard winter and needed some TLC.

Got a new stem, bars, recycled some old chromed fenders, and a new bottom bracket went in.

Sixty,
What's the purpose of the padded top tube. Sweat protector? won't get scratched when lockng it?

Protecting the "family jewels"?

Sixty Fiver 03-12-10 11:48 PM

Installed that tt protector when I was working as a messenger to protect the frame from locking up 100 times a day and as a winter bike it offers some good padding against freezing oneself to the top tube and if one was to go down on the ice it might save one's knee / leg from getting bashed up.

Ruptured the bursa in my knee and opened it up for half a dozen stitches when I slammed my knee into the top tube of this bike's sister... that kept me off the bike for almost 6 weeks.

I'm going to pick up new new bike, a Kona Smoke, on Tuesday, along with all the kit. I haven't got a photo, and to be honest it'll likely look pretty generic (albeit lovely), so I drew it instead. And yes, I do have some weird 20 inch spokeless variety of bike...

I thought it was cheap...

No rear derailleur either, but nice artwork just the same.

One of the best bike pics I've seen here (and I've looked at them all.) Thanks for making me smile.

Just brought her home today after months of waiting. And now the weather is going to be nice enough to ride her. Really my century bike, but all my base miles are commuting.

noglider 03-15-10 06:05 AM

Is that a Pacer? How does it ride!?

BigDaddyPete 03-15-10 09:04 AM

It is a Pacer. The component group came from a 1990 Raleigh Supercourse, all old 6600 and a Biopace crank. Rides like a dream.

Jrjwoodsman,
I am digging your bike; the photo is nicely taken also.

jrjwoodsman 03-16-10 08:21 AM

Thanks! I had a young couple snickering at me as the walked by and I was bent down taking the pic.

Nice bike!
Those the Randonneur Pro's? How are you liking them?

Just ordered a set of 700x32's Seeing mostly positive replies.

Well, here's my "Clear skies? YES!" Commuter:

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...8_1280x846.jpg

Just took it for a 40km "saturday" ride, and had to race the rain home.

...I lost, but not by much!

I'll take the daily hack out sometime soon and get some better shots of it. Poor 310, my most un-photographed beast, yet it's my most used bike!

Hey, bugly64, how does the Big Dummy ride? I've heard they're suprisingly good. Do the rear disc brake feel squishy after all that cable length?

How the posture? I see you have your handlebars set so they angle down; is the posture usually more upright?

Thanks,

dygituljunky

bugly64 03-17-10 11:04 AM

The Dummy rides well and I don't notice any squishy-ness in the rear disc. It rides the same with 60lb carpet cleaner on one side and nothing on the other. I hauled an old Schwinn back from the LBS with the tire in the front tire in the freeloader and it worked flaulessly.

I am still working on the best posture and handlebar choice. I may go with some retro cruiser bars soon.
