^^^ Very nice!

Pretty bike DVC45. Is that a 520?

FunkyStickman 08-06-10 12:05 PM

Good looking bikes, everybody. I love the diversity in selections we have here. Just goes to show, you can use just about anything to get the job done!

Just bought a pannier/saddlebag for my "beater" Pacific/Schwinn. It's a Sunlite Traveler 1 bag, was on sale at Ebikestop.com for $18! Couldn't pass it up. It probably has more storage than I'll ever need commuting. I'm ready to go!

(Sorry for the sucky cell pics, my good camera had dead batteries)

The picture upload widget doesn't like me either, I had to upload to another site and link the images here for them to work.

Those are cool fenders. What kind are they?

Mr. Embrey 08-06-10 09:00 PM

Ah, thank you. Fenders are Planet Bike. I got em off ebay for $25 or $30 shipped. The red and white tips are just some reflective tape I got from Wal-mart.

Sixty Fiver 08-06-10 10:00 PM

70km commute today (55km yesterday)... Forrest came home looking a little different too.

:)

That's a neat idea.

Using Flickr to Post Your Pics?

I've been using Flickr for awhile now to post pics of my commuters. They've just changed their website/format and now I can't figure out how to post pics. When I cut & paste the link listed in "Grab the link" under the "Share this" tab, all that shows up on my posts is a little box with a red "x" inside of it. Has anyone else faced the same problem and found a way around it?

Failing that, can anyone recommend another Flickr-type of site that is user-friendly (and free to use)?

azesty 08-07-10 12:09 AM

I use Photobucket. Their sharing stuff seems to work well.

That's the problem I was having. I just posted a link and someone else posted the pic correctly for me.

Mr Embrey, That is a really good looking bike. And you tastefully added the reflector tape, which I like. Most of the reflector tape jobs that I see are just 'slapped on' and done for safety only with no concern for aesthetics. Nice work.

Here's a better shot of the bike with panniers: (sorry, bad cellphone pic)

The 520 is a beautiful bike... congrats!

I agree. I saw one in person for the first time yesterday. Love the colour and of course, the steel frame.

Had my friend's 520 in my shop this past week and took it out for 20 miles... you should see if you can arrange a test ride as then you may never be right again.

Short of going custom you probably can't find too many bikes that are any better.

I'm not allowed to test ride new bikes right now due to the recent purchase of my Norco. Although my wife may not understand n+1, she does understand that I'm a believer in it.

Once I'm done school (April '11) I will start looking for a drop-bar commuter, and the 520 will definitely be on my list.

Thanks Roger M

Thanks Sixty Fiver. I consider that a genuine compliment coming from you.

I work on a lot of bikes and certain bikes stand out as being a step above the rest... the 520 and Trek's older hand built touring models usually stand out from the rest.
