Of course the Raleigh and the Schwinn aren't seeing much duty since the new Norco joined the stable. |
Slight up date to the good ole M-80 got new crank set moved up to a 50 tooth and now running 3 rings, and a fancy new titanium BB, and to think three months ago it was a 1x8. Ive decided to use her as my touring rig now as well and i live in idaho so i needed to make it a little easier to climb when i get the new rubber ill post better pics. It almost looks naked without any bags on it feels weird riding it without em too. Gonna go on a weekend ride next week lets see how the ole beast does.

Why can't I find any info on that bike? It's a nice one!
The bike is part of TREKs Nordic Line. It's supposedly made with special regard to the Scandinavian climate. As I ride all year round in all kinds of weather, I do hope that they have done their research. :) Here's the link to TREKs Danish homepage: http://www.trekbikes.com/dk/da/bikes.../s_bike/s720e/ Sorry for the late reply. |

Very nice. I wish Trek would sell this bike in North America. For some reason bikes with IGH, dynohubs, lights, fenders, and racks seem to be the exception rather than the norm in these parts.
Yes it's strange that they're not available. I'd think that these features would come in handy anywhere. The only things I added, were the bar-ends. My bike is part of TREKs Nordic Line, supposedly built for the Scandinavian climate. I gather that the S in S720 stands for Scandinavia. Here's a link to the Danish homepage, should you be interested: http://www.trekbikes.com/dk/da/bikes.../s_bike/s720e/ Sorry for the late reply. I clean forgot that I've posted in this thread. I tried to post the picture in another thread, but couldn't get it to work properly, so I sulked for a couple of weeks. I know that I've repeated myself a bit in the two postings. That's just the story of my life. :o |
1980's Shogun Ground Breaker. Just picked up last week, did some major remodeling. Added brifters, new saddle and triple crank set. Can't find much info about this bike anywhere, but rides great.

That Shogun looks nice, I am curious about your rear brake setup. I have a shogun road bike hanging in my garage. I snagged it when my neighbors tossed it out in the trash. Seems like a nice enough bike I haven't had the time to do anything with it yet.

Where'd you get that sweet lookin' front rack ?
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...y/commuter.jpg You should paint it to match the bike. |
picked it up off ebay for like 18 bucks i didnt wanna spend no damn 100 bucks for a rack i would only use a few times, yeah im gonna paint it its in the test fitting phase right now im adding some bars to go from it to the top screw holes on my fork drops to make it easier to attach bags. to find it on ebay just search for front rack bags and they will show up, really are pretty good deal.

I couldn't pass up the recent sale and coupons on the Nashbar touring frame and fork. Finally got all my gear moved over to it. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_KlutTMONX-g/TG...4/DSC00177.JPGFrom My Pictures"> |

With 3 young ones, I am finding that it's very difficult to find the time to ride these days especially on the weekends. Browsing through this site, I have been motivated to commute, and decided to commute at least once a week, 18 miles each way.
I have few bikes each for specific purposes, but none for a commuter use. So I decided to convert my clunker for commute use. It's a no name brand, Motiv RockPoint II which was bought at Costco over 20 years ago. It was the first bike that I purchased in the late 80s. Although a cheapo, it still has decent frame, cro-mo 4130. Since it was always garaged, the frame is in quite excellent condition though. For sentimental values, I haven't been able to part with it all these years. I have been looking into fenders and panniers, but I was undecided until last Friday when I rode to work. I rode with my backpack which weighed over 20 lbs due to laptop. And I realized that I better get that weight off my shoulders asap...dang shoulders are still killing me. Here's my clunker...I mean commuter. By the way, sorry for the bad phone pic. http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010-08-13.jpg |
BigSung you got it with the drive side out and a light colored wall behind it. That should suit all. It looks quite practical and I admire it. I commuted three years before I saved up enough for the Trek. I have one after another of the Xmart bikes with parts from other bikes to keep them going. The best thing I ever did was make some mud tires into studded ice tires. I have commuted almost every day since then, regardless of weather. Good luck. Blues Frog

Bigsung, Check out this thread, lots of other people have turned their old mountainbikes into commuters:
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...light=hardrock Yeah, the threads over 3 years old, but it shows you what you can do. Consider adding lights, it will be getting dark early sooner than anyone would like, fenders are great for helping keep the nasty road grime, oil, brake dust off you and your bike when it rains. I've been commuting on mine for 5 years now. |

Looks great, you did a really great job. Although I would probably throw that brake on the front instead of the back. |
My single speed beach cruiser came in today! Woott. Went out to Walmart and got me some spare tubes, bike lock, mini pump, and some tools. Still be needing a slime patch, some slime sealants, and possibly a small bag. Sorry no pic folks.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...y/commuter.jpg Great lookin rig my friend! do you have the rear fender and rack on the same eyelets or are there two back there? Also, powder coated? |
Two eyelets and no on the powder coat just a three year old oven baked automotive primer.
|
I decided to finally go with a rack rather than lugging stuff around on my back. The pannier is actually just my backpack which I was able to secure very snuggly onto the rack that came in the mail today.

Not missing anything if you feel fine without it. But it probably wouldn't a bad idea to put some black cloth tape on, to protect the bars and add some grip. But it's your call.
