Ditto! One of the cleanest commuter builds I've ever seen! Good taste too... I'm a huge fan of internal gears for commuters.

1983 Rossin Super Record with Sturmey Archer 3 speed Hub, Brooks Swift, Winnemen Wheels and Steel fenders.

A recent temporary move has forced me to ride through a kinda rough area of Springfield, Oh to get to work. So I traded a guy some mountain bike parts for a 1985 Fuji Espree frameset to build up a more stealth commuter. Felt the Trek 520 was a bit of a tempting target. The frame is in nice shape except the headset was a little rough, so I had the LBS put a new one in. Other than that and a new Tiagra FD and rear gear cable I had all the parts for a seven speed build. It's a little heavier than the Trek, but the quad butted Valite tubing gives a nice smooth ride. Here she is shortly after the build. I am going to be adding some SKS fenders I have soon.

Are you going to add it to your stable or pass it on once it's perfected?

What tires are they, and how do you like them?

Tyres are Schwalbe Hurricanes... fast, smooth, and over the last 10,000 km have been bulletproof.

The bike is local, 1:1, and I freaking love it.

Definately a keeper and it it will look so good after it gets new powder.

Very nice! Am I right in assuming that's a SA hub in front, too? BTW you must be freakishly tall; I'd need a ladder to get on that bike.

Got some new brakes I did, decided to keep the brifters and instead bought some nashbar canti's, they work really good with my levers. I just got plain sick and tired of the travel agents so i could run V-brakes, these canti's have more braking power IMHO. Got a really good deal on them to bought them "used" for 12bucks, they by no means have been used just came without pads. Also at this point still running without fenders i still need to get a new set to replace my broken front, and i finally replaced the bungee on my favorite pannier.

It is a hand built custom that was made here by Jim Moulden... he retired from the frame building business some yeas ago and his bikes are rather sought after in these parts... he build mtb, road, cross, and touring bikes.

It turns into a blender, and sometimes a deadly weapon, mostly it just seems to transform my money into metal parts.

BTW, why are the brake lines located on the side?
Is that a MTB with road handlebars? If so, is that a 700c fork or rigid mtb fork? For the latter, did you relocate the brake braze-ons?

Nope its 100% MTB with drops its a 1995 Raleigh M-50

MTB often run all the cables on the top tube to keep them out of the mud and to keep them from getting bashed or snagged as you go over stuff.
Mounting on the side helps keep them from slapping the tube when you are hitting bumps.
