Ride with my hand in the bend of the bar most of the time... also use the ends for a wider lower position (acceleration and climbs) and can sit up and ride with my hands at centre where the bars are un-wrapped as even with a narrow hand position the bike is really stable.

The wide position is good for track stands too... :)

What kind of jacket is that you're wearing? It looks comfortable, bright, and reflective.

I finally took pictures of my commuter. Well, I guess commuter is not completely accurate since it is my only bike, although the vast majority of my miles come from my commute. It is not new - from 97 or so. Since I started commuting seriously last year I have added:
  • Topeak Super Tourist Rack
  • Pedals with SPD on one side and flat on the other
  • Fenders - SKS 45mm (started with PB, but were too small for studded winter tires)
  • Rear chainstay kickstand - I LOVE this
  • Trekking Handlebars - not wrapped in this pic, but have since been wrapped. Will post updated pic when I get around to it.
  • Stem - needed for the trekking bars
  • Mirror - started with bar end mirror, but switched to this one when I installed the Trekking bars
  • Bell - I am considering removing since saying "on your left" seems to be just as effective. Plus, nothing is effective for runners who are listening to music. But haven't gotten rid of yet since there are some occasions when I ring it before a blind corner
  • Mount for my android phone - so I can use gps/hrm
  • Tires - Currently running 700x32 Schwalbe Marathon (in the winter I run Nokian W240)
  • Lights - only the PB blinkie is shown, but I also have a Radbot on my helmet and I usually have a flashlight mounted on the handlebars. Last winter I used a MagicShine mounted on the bars and the flashlight on my helmet.

Since these pictures were taken I have purchased a new front dynamo wheel with a front dynamo light. I'll show pictures of them when I finally get them installed (waiting on rim tape to be delivered). At some point I hope to have a Brooks saddle.

I have seriously considered replacing this with a new commuter several times in the past year. I bought the bike new and it was very cheap when I purchased it (only a few hundred dollars). But every time I research it, I keep reaching the conclusion that the frame (other than not supporting disc brakes) is actually pretty darn good. Very good fit for me. 4130 Chromoly. So, I have decided to keep it and am actually in a very zen place with it. That is why I have spent the money to get the trekking bars and the new front dynamo wheel.

It's an older MEC Microloft jacket... it's light, windproof, water resistant, and feels soft like cloth.

It also packs well.

The new version costs under $70.00.

Nice bike.
My wife had a 400T elance that we gave away about 12 years ago. That was a bad move.

Almost at the end of my 55km commute... after a left at the top of the hill I ride a few hundred feet and ride up one more hill.

Huh?!?! A Giant with a Cannondale Fatty-style front suspension fork? Patent infringement?

It was about $180 new, weighs like 35lbs and uses microshift components (6 speeds)

Very simple and low-end but it gets the job done, about 9 miles round-trip every day, no problems after a few months.

Dude, someone bent the top tube of your bike!

commo_soulja 05-18-11 02:16 AM

Nice stealthy non-descript bike.

That is the mount for my cell phone, which is how I do my GPS and HRM. Ram mount (http://www.ram-mount.com/Products/Bi...3/Default.aspx).

It is two pieces: the phone cradle (which you see in the picture) and the mount itself (which is attached to the stem with zip ties and holds the cradle). I used it first with my old Windows 6.1 phone and now with my Android 2.2 phone. That is part of the beauty of the cradle itself, it is adaptable in width to securely hold your phone (no matter how thick or wide). If I didn't have a quill stem, I probably wouldn't be able to mount the mount securely on the stem and so would mount it instead on the handlebars itself. The cradle clicks into the mount and is detachable relatively easy and if I prefer I can use it in landscape mode.

Giving the fixed gear thing a try for a while commuting. Kinda miss the rack but gettung used to the back pack. Wanted to give the ss/fg thing a try, now cant stop riding it after getting it put together.

Very nice looking Windsor, I didn't know they came in that color! Is that the 49cm size?

Edit - I just looked at the BD site, that's the only color they have, but they look much darker on the website...

Specialized Sirrus dropbar convert
This is my go-to bike for long rides and faster commuting. It used it for winter commuting last year but I was also changing the cassettes and cranks so I wasn't super-worried about the extra wear and tear. The massive mudflap kept most of the sand and salt out of my chain.

This bike was a bit of a hack but it's working now. I would save my pennies for a slightly better suited frame but this was the only thing I could find that would run wide 700 tires and horizontal dropouts. I'd have bought the actual WT5 but they've been sold out of my size since December. It's finally reached a point approaching completion so it sees regular use now... I don't really notice the heavy hubs riding around town, haven't been brave enough to take it out of the city yet. I also have a homemade chaincase dreamed up and hope to get around to it sometime.

The color threw me too. I was thinking they had changed the color to a lighter shade and I kinda like it. It could just be the lighting both in this pic and the ones BD has on their website. Either the one pictured here is very nice. =)
