Nice!
What handlebars are you using? Very interesting curve. |
Hello all, this is my commuter:
http://i.imgur.com/iIhT1.jpg It was about $180 new, weighs like 35lbs and uses microshift components (6 speeds) Very simple and low-end but it gets the job done, about 9 miles round-trip every day, no problems after a few months. |
That bike looks like a lot less than 35 pounds. Are you sure? How many kilograms?

35 lbs sounds about right to me. Certainly an interesting top tube though.

Look like trekking bars to me... just mounted upside-down (relative to mine, that is). I tried mounting mine like that, but found the riding position uncomfortable so I installed them curving upward.

I think he's actually referring to a bike posted by Fenway, back on page 323:

My primary commuter. a RANS v2. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_V...0/SAM_0693.JPG My wet weather/other commuter. a fixed gear Raleigh 20 copy almost dwarfed by the Carradice Camper saddlebag. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_V...0/SAM_0691.JPG Another commuter. Fitted with a trailer hitch for towing a heap of work. |
not the best bike on earth, but it does what it does.

I have mine pretty much ready for commuting. Are there any other bags that are a bit smaller that also lift off and would work with the tubus fly?

My Giant FCR3500 - that's my old Dahon Boardwalk behind it (now my wife's bike).

I only have one brake hood... :)
Ride with my hand in the bend of the bar most of the time... also use the ends for a wider lower position (acceleration and climbs) and can sit up and ride with my hands at centre where the bars are un-wrapped as even with a narrow hand position the bike is really stable. The wide position is good for track stands too... :) http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...ccmpathme1.jpg What kind of jacket is that you're wearing? It looks comfortable, bright, and reflective. |
I finally took pictures of my commuter. Well, I guess commuter is not completely accurate since it is my only bike, although the vast majority of my miles come from my commute. It is not new - from 97 or so. Since I started commuting seriously last year I have added:
Since these pictures were taken I have purchased a new front dynamo wheel with a front dynamo light. I'll show pictures of them when I finally get them installed (waiting on rim tape to be delivered). At some point I hope to have a Brooks saddle. I have seriously considered replacing this with a new commuter several times in the past year. I bought the bike new and it was very cheap when I purchased it (only a few hundred dollars). But every time I research it, I keep reaching the conclusion that the frame (other than not supporting disc brakes) is actually pretty darn good. Very good fit for me. 4130 Chromoly. So, I have decided to keep it and am actually in a very zen place with it. That is why I have spent the money to get the trekking bars and the new front dynamo wheel. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_r...0/IMG_1196.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_r...0/IMG_1197.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_r...0/IMG_1198.jpg |
nice set-up, been thinking about the butterfly bars myself.

It also packs well. The new version costs under $70.00. http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_d...34374302692343 |

Almost at the end of my 55km commute... after a left at the top of the hill I ride a few hundred feet and ride up one more hill.
