This is my daily commuter, it is a '05 Cannondale Bad Boy and even though it is a stiff ride, I have never had better. It has been pretty icy here in Michigan lately and I have been thinking of putting some knobbies on it for this season. http://static.flickr.com/24/102055262_eb757cd1b5.jpg http://static.flickr.com/30/102055260_5d777c1367.jpg Mashallah

I replaced the factory tires with Specialized Nimbus EX 1.5 slicks. Even though some have maxed out the air pressure on these tires to 90psi, I generally run about 72psi. Makes the road smoother for that "harshness" from a aluminum ride. I am building a steel frame commuter. But I will always keep my Bad Boy it's been a great bike for 3 years now. The controlability of the bicycle makes a non-stop commuter. My only criticism is the front crank's biggest chairring is 44. I will run out of gears on the right decline. However, most of the time I am commuting on city roads and the gearing is fine. |
I've been riding my 97 GT Timberline Mountain Bike as my commuter for about 8 months now, and the winter had been rough on it. After a deep cleaning this weekend, I decided to convert it to singlespeed (42x18 right now), give it a complete brake job, and remove all frame stickers. I'm thrilled with the results.
Commuting Equipment of Note: Arkel Bug Panier/Backpack, Cateye TLD-1000 taillight, and Schwalbe Marathon tires (heavy, but bombproof). The WTB saddle is super comfortable too. http://static.flickr.com/19/101895900_37ea188dfd.jpg http://static.flickr.com/34/101895565_0d19425251.jpg http://static.flickr.com/37/101894428_e68eeb95d3.jpg All Pictures |
Man those tires really do make that spoke reflector look unnecessary. Those are one of my two choices in tire for my commuter ... hard to find 27 x 1 1/4 sized reflector tires :)

The LedSled!

Hello Folks.. Billy Boy (my border collie) and my trailer will be the side bar feature in the upcoming May/June issue of Reno (NV) Magazine -- so I am told. The cycling issue will feature the full spectum of cycling in the Reno community from professional racer to car-free person like myself In the article, I will be sharing print space with elite bike racer. Bobby Julich. Much obliged. Nick Lee car free since January 2000 member of the 5 digit club (10,000+ bicycle miles each year every year since) |

http://usera.imagecave.com/Obed/newbike2.JPG I have a short (8km) commute to work. Nice park with dirt trails by the lake most of the way there so I usually ride the Hardrock. It was cheap and it's fun to bash around. The camo beast Schwinn only gets out in the summer for trips to the store. It's kinda hard to ride for Me. I'm 230lbs... :) |
I bought this new in 1988. TREK 830 MB - it now has a Brooks B-67 saddle and an adjustable stem that gets the North Road bars even with the saddle and back about 2 inches closer. Ditched the fatties for 1.5" Nimbus Armadillos. Fenders off a '57 Ford with real flaps. It has the original Ovaltec up front and 18 rings. Don't laugh - it's a hill killer, and that's all I have around here it seems. Either way, it's a mile or so up hill out of the hood.

Here's the bike I've been riding to work lately: '88 Trek 660, converted to 42-16 fixed gear.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y18...o/DSCN2252.jpg I bought the frame second-hand for a song, had to buy a new rear wheel (Sun rims, Suzue flipflop, Surly cog, D/A lockring), Sora front brake, and new brake hoods. Everything else is from the spare parts box, including the mismatched bar tape, RSX crankset, and RSX/Mavic CPX21 front wheel. The 19in frame is a little short for me, but with a 120mm stem and a fair bit of seatpost, it fits remarkably well. I love this bike. |
Here's my clunky commuter tank that can go 20+ mph. Of course, I cheat a little to assist me.

I'm not that tall, I might add, so that frame fits me perfectly :)
