I am looking at putting in an order for some bike parts. Is $17 a tire a good deal for the Primo Comets? It seems like it.

Seems to be a fair price for them... have had no complaints with them at all and do know they are not going to be the high mileage tyres Marathons would be but they compensate by having a better ride at higher psi and roll out much faster.

My trailer had some 20 by 2.0 tyres when I got it which would be good if you were carrying kids... swapping to the Primo's lightened that up really nicely too.

EEEEKkk, i didnt even finish painting the kuwahara and ive already changed ideas, im instead gonna use that frame as my flatbar winter beater and try out a giant iguana i bought last night. Got a killer deal on it 20 bucks for an all original giant with full suntour components, it was a group buy though i also had to buy with it two other "crappy" MTBs and three sets of crappy wheels, but really a little more than three bikes for twenty bucks ill just do a quick rebuild of the other two turn around and sell each for 15 bucks and i get paid money for the giant. Im gonna throw all the stuff from the giant on the kuwahara and swap the giant frame with my raliegh, ill get some pics up later of the mess i purchased. :)

Here is my latest city ride. It's a 2010 Globe Live 2, somewhat modified. It has been changed over to a front dynamo hub with a hydraulic disc brake, bamboo fenders and a leather saddle.

It is still a work in progress, i've got a rear rack that has matching wood for the front basket, which will be painted to match the bike, a silver Alfine and a second hydraulic disc brake to install, which has yet to happen. Lastly, need to pick out some dynamo lights to go with the dynamo hub.

Overall, I quite enjoy this bicycle, especially the huge front basket! It's extremely useful, and i'm really developing a preference for it over having panniers.

My "free" giant ive come to the conclusion though this is gonna become my winter beater im gonna continue with the kuwahara drop bar build which i have not made any progress on in the last week, all in all the giant is in great shape new front rim i have a new chain for it already gonna try and score a new 7 spd cassette for it and a seat and shes ready to rock and roll, of course that is after i strip and repaint frame and forks ill update once i get some work done

My autumn/winter commuter & trainer. Just finished a drop bar upgrade.

monsterpile 10-24-10 10:44 AM

Here is an update on my MTB drop bar projects.

I found some goodies that were hiding in my pile of stuff in the basement which will help both bikes get to where I want them to be. Another set of aero levers, threadless stem adapter, threaded stem with removeable faceplate. All these parts will add to each of the bikes and made me more excited about working on them.

The Specialized project I haven't any more progress, but I will since I think its going to become the backup commuter bike and maybe even a touring bike if I do that type of thing. It has lots of spots to mount fenders and racks and the Schwinn has none which is partly why I started building the Specialized as well.

The Schwinn I decided last week I would make it more of a road bike because it didn't have anywhere to mount racks etc and I don't really need another mountain bike. So I decided on a road crank for this one. The crank I decided to use was on a ghetto tri bike project thats been unfinished for a couple years now (worked on it a bit this morning so Its a few hours from being done) and I decided that maybe the wheelset on that needed to go somewhere else. I decided to throw them on the Schwiinn and I liked it. So here is what I have so far. I just need to finish getting the rear brake hooked up and a couple other small things, but I rode it a bit with just the front brake and I liked it alot. I really like the thumbshifters mounted under the brake levers. Its very easy to shift and isn't hard to set up at all. I am sure it will make it into the commuting rotation as well as being the main bike I ride around on the bike paths in town for recreation.

Thats a nice bike for $20 plus your other ones. I can't believe you only paid that much with at custom brown chain. LOL What color is that Iguana anyway? I know you are going to paint it, but I can't decide if its gray, brown or what.

Love it. Though I would say for a commuter you should get at least one brake... I mean, what would happen if you snapped a chain?

Nothing will stop you faster than slamming into a stationary object... like a parked car.

On the bright side... the odds that a good quality chain that has been properly installed will brake under normal use is pretty slim.

Slim but not non-existent, right?

Chains do break (I can spell... really) but it does not happen frequently... I won't and don't run an FG bike without a brake (or two).

There is something about riding fast and stopping fast that appeals to me.

Actually, the parked car usually won't stop you. It might stop the bike, but your momentum will continue until you hit terra ferma.

Won't be going anywhere significant until a little later but figured I should swap in the studded front tyre in case the roads start to ice up... :)
