It can be your foul-weather commuter and your dream CF road bike can be saved for sunny days.

I would love to do that, but I've got two problems. First, most of my commute in to work is along fairly busy roads and involves crossing one major highway over-pass and a railway overpass. I already tend to get buzzed by cars at narrow points in the road, such as the overpasses- despite the fact that the cars have plenty of room to give me a lot of clearance- once we get snow on the ground, it'll may get worse. Second, and in many ways the bigger problem- I don't think my wife would go for it. She's already deathly afraid that I'm going to get hit by a car, bus, or a truck. She insists that I email her every morning before I leave the house, and then again once I get in to work, so that she doesn't have to worry. But I may try and work on her anyway. :D

For the non icy winter commutes... just installed new old wheels and some 2.125 Kenda Komodo tyres which roll out unbelievably well... it is like riding on a cloud with a jet engine.

Here's my son's Novarra Forza. I picked it up on CL for a pretty good price. I just finished converting to the drop bars & brifters (it originally came with a straight bar w/bullhorn extensions). This is the first modern road bike I've worked on. Many minor differences from what I'm used to, especially the stem & shifters. And I'm really impressed with the Tektro brakes.

I am new here and thought I would post some pix of my Cannondal Bad Boy. love this bike,, I've added the disk brakes, bags and the Origin 8 stubbys and clamp on drops. I am thinking of going to straight out road drop bars along with Soras but I realy like this setup. These wider than road bars give me leveradge and manuverability. Peace Gus

Excuse me sir

Your bicycle is missing a wheel.

Just thought you should know

I took this previously severely neglected Vicious Cycles Metal Guru and turned it into a pleasant commuter. Pending a p-clip purchase for the rack, I'm just using my messenger bag in the meantime.

Yay the hydraulic caliper brake makes a return:) Haven't seen one of them in a while

Just finished building my new commuter. So far it's been great. Previously I was on doing my time on my road bike. I thought I'd give a more classic look and laid back seating position a shot. It's an old Cross Check. I'm proud of it. It was my first build on my own, so I keep showing it off! :D

So this is my new commuter. It's a 2010 Schwinn World Street.

monsterpile 11-03-10 12:07 PM

I like that Schwinn World Street. I also like that it looks like you took a pic of it at work. Maybe everyone should be doing that. =)

Nice! Mismatched brakes (aka the "brake mullet"); fenders, slicks, and north road bars on a MTB frame; and a b1tchin' The Maxx paint job = sweet frankenbike. Looks like a fun ride.

Very nice-looking bike man!

Okay -- I've been meaning to do this for a while. This is my day to day ride, a 2010 Kona Dew Drop, mostly stock, except for the cargo carrying items, bell and lights. The major additions are the Topeak Super Tourist rack, Avenir Excursion Panniers.

I'm still debating the merits of various fender options, and waiting until next pay period (or two).

*** hmmm.... why do the pictures show in edit mode, but not in the post itself?***

As long as you promise to wash it really, really, really well before you take it into the OR.

Here's my Surly Long Haul Trucker with the recent addition of a Wald 137 basket. Love wire baskets on top of porteur racks! Light, tough, and extremely practical.
