I usually commute on my Dahon Curve SL...

..but sometimes I take the Yuba Mundo so I can go shopping after work or pick up kids on the way home.

Where did you get that thermometer on the stem cap?

Igo 06-19-11 09:15 PM

I was wondering how long it would be before someone asked about the Thermometer.

http://www.stemcaptain.com/

It's really quite nicely made and easy as pie to install.

There is/was a bike that you connected with Sixty Fiver the most? Thank you. Now I don't feel like such a dork for having to take some time to get over the Kuwuhara growing gears.

cobrabryte seat angle

Cobrabryte:
I noticed every one of your bikes has the seat tilted up quite a bit in front.. obviously it isn't giving you problems, but I keep hearing this is not good and can cause problems for men.. any one have any opinions?
I have a fairly new Brooks Honey Champion Flyer (B17 with springs) I have the seat tilted up because I keep slidding forward on it. My local bike shop (Carmel, Bay Bikes) told me that after it gets broken in I will be able to tilt it back to level, which is physically better with less pressure in the wrong spot.

Great bikes! But wow, what a tree in the background! FL?

My commuter/roadie: Steve

No commuting-specific mods on it, but most of my riding is done while commuting to work so here goes: :commute:

This is my Steve Bauer Sirocco (from late 80's/early 90's ?) that I scored for $75 off kijiji (similar to craigslist) and only had to put on new tires & tubes, new bar-tape and then oil the chain. It's my first road bike and I love this thing! It's so fun to ride!

Naturally I named it Steve.

Looks like a strangler fig or banyan tree, they're very dramatic looking...

Well, I have been riding for over 5 years with my saddles at this tilt, and have not experienced any issues. I prefer to sit toward the far rear of my saddles, and if I "level" my saddles, I end up sliding forward on the saddle and it puts pressure both on my wrists, as well as other areas I don't want pressure on. The level saddle position actually puts more pressure on my.....area>? than the way I have them tilted. Though the nose of my saddles tilt up, the area I am actually sitting on is fairly level. The saddle on the Gitane has actually been tilted down a bit (that pic was taken on the first ride) I also wear padded shorts under my regular shorts/pants. On the brooks saddles, I do have to occasionally adjust the tilt as they break in, so your LBS did give you good advice.

Most of my bikes are set up with the saddle either at the same level or slightly higher than the handlebars.
I think there are a lot of variables to account for as well, like style of riding, how aggresive the drop is to the h-bars, frame geo, etc....as well as body shape. I've seen many guys who sit way up on the nose of the saddle (mostly road/tri folks) and I think that may be where the level saddle rule of thumb came from. But, not everyone sits in such an aggressive manner on their bikes (myself included), so I just do what's most comfortable for me.

good guess! I beleive it is a moreton bay fig tree, but from what i understand a banyon is a type of fig tree as well. When I posted this bike in the c&v forum, a discussion around the tree also arose. I may have to choose a different background next time lol.
we do have some really cool trees in Fl,

Nice collection !

And, yes, you should ride the 1981 Lotus Classique more often, or it would end up like this :

That's not going to be easy. I had my Cross Check around 21.5 pounds as a single speed with no accessories. A carbon fork might get it under 20, but a Surly with a carbon fork is kind of an abomination.

Doane 06-21-11 09:27 PM

Thanks for your feedback, Cobrabyte, I think I'll just ride the way it feels most comfortable (tilted back a bit) and not worry about what others say. Really nice bike collection you have!

Happy bike to work day Colorado. I have enough food on the baskets for our office of 16 people, burgers and chips and all the fixins.

Beebe,

Nice looking ride. What kind of elastic net do you have on the top of your rack? It looks like it fits the rack a lot better than the cargo net I have on my bike,

Thanks,
Mark

Happy BTWD indeed.

Unfortunately, I didn't see any extra riders than I would see normally... :(

The Trek was one of my longest serving bikes and went through many evolutions... and probably got ridden more than any single bike I own.

I have known some people longer who do not associate me with that Trek and are still surprised that I ride geared bikes which I have been doing more and more of late... for years it was me and a battered old Peugeot and folks still ask about her.

Think I am overdue to rebuild that old girl.

Both my Kuwaharas have grown gears... :)

With the rack, seatbag, and lights on, it's 28#. No rack, lights, or seatbag, but still with fenders and pedals, it's 25#. Take it with a grain of salt as I used a crappy Wal-mart bathroom scale to measure. I don't think you're gonna get under 20# unless you get high-end road components and/or go singlespeed. By the time you get done buying all that, you may as well have just bought a different frame.
