With summer tires (Big Apples, 2.0 in front and 2.35 in the rear). Changed grips from old neon yellow Tiogas (which were total dirt magnets) to cheap black Lizard Skins, swapped out clunky looking adjustable stem for Origin8 ProPulsion stem (40 deg, 100mm), and added colored Duck brand duct tape to dorky yellow panniers to make them (very slightly) less dorky. The 60 lbs of groceries in/on the panniers are not part of the standard commute rig, thank God. |

I try to make the full 50 mile round trip at least once a week, plus multi-mode and commute 24miles RT on at least two other days. Plus leisure rides.
1977 Schwinn Traveller III. New Wienman 404 wheels, Panaracer Pasella Tourgard tires, upgraded to 7 speed Shimano freewheel. Topped off with a new set of brake pads front and rear. I was concerned about the wheels, because they were so cheap. ~$90 for the set at Jenson, but I've run these for 600 miles and they are only out of true about 1MM, and I ride some rough country roads with old chipseal. Love the tires. Decent flat protection and big enough to cushion my 250lbs on a sprung Brooks. Also super happy with the Radbot 1000 blinky. Super bright and 7+ hour runtime on blink mode. Just picked up a USB charged front flashing light to mitigate getting hooked. Definitely looking into clipless for the commute. The platforms make my toes go numb around 35 miles in. For such an old bike, it sure rides nice. |

My ~20 year old Specialized Crossroads, mostly original equipment:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5274/...7888a3c2af.jpg Untitled by tastewar, on Flickr Today was my first day riding in this season (sad, I know). It's 16 miles each way, and I've typically done one day a week. Last year, I managed two days a week one time, and I hope to improve on that this year. |

Not much is new here, put on a full sized front rack that I haven't worked all the bugs out of yet, but learned with my head tube angle and fully loaded bags on the front she rides like it's on a track. I think I may once again re-gear it I'm not liking the ratio's I set up.

Mounted a rack and panniers on my road bike. Notice the rear SKS Raceblade? ;)

I've updated the Marinoni with drop bars and 25mm tires for eventual use for longer rides in the mountains (11 speed Alfine coming soon).
I've been having a blast using it on my commute (going fast and light with a backpack).:D http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=206940 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=206941 |
Nice! My brother commutes on a marinoni!

Not the greatest tape job, but I just added some Lightweights and reflective tape to my bike. Took this picture near dark with the camera flash the only source of back lighting.

She's looking slick with the drops, canyoneagle! What are you planning to use to shift the Alfine 11 when it arrives?

2010 Crosscheck. I was poking around ebay one day and someone was selling one that was built almost exactly like what I already had in mind so I snatched it up. SRAM Rival drivetrain and Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheelset, from which I removed the gawdy foil stickers. I'm thinking about de-logoing the rest of the bike, swapping the bar tape, and painting the stem and seat post.

I finally have some pics of my new bike. It isn't what would normally be concidered a commuter but until it cools down a bit, commuting is mostly all it is doing. I can't wait for better weather.
I am more proud of this than my new motorcycle. I am having a terrific time and look forward to my commute everyday. Mondays are no longer the same. Giant Defy 2 set up for commuting to work, exploring the city and day rides out at Lake Mead. http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p...onator/1-3.jpg All these images are on Lake Mead Parkway heading to Lake Mead in Henderson Nevada. That is the Las Vegas strip in the background. http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p...onator/2-2.jpg http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p...onator/3-2.jpg http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p...onator/4-1.jpg http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp230/igonator/5.jpg http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp230/igonator/6.jpg |
